Here's a chibi Lex doodle I found in my Ibis paint gallery to distract you from what I'm gonna say
Why the fuck is everything I see Dek. Its just Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek Dek. Its silly because I don't even like that much Dek stuff, it's usually Kwei and has much AVP stuff as I can. How the fuck does the tumblr algorithm work...
I dont hate Dek I just don't want to be exposed to his British hard lad hair cut so much.
The beginning of an AVP Scarlex fic! It's just Lex, as I wanted to try and work on getting her character right. Hopefully I can get a few chapters of this out before the holidays hit!

Winter comes in biting gales of wind and bitterly cold mornings. Lex is, thankfully, far enough from Lake Eerie to save her from suffering lake effect winters. Still, as the locals had told her, there would be snow in due time.
She feels ready for it. Probably.
The problem with snow, as she soon discovered, was that it was no longer just snow to her.
Something she thought she had become so familiar with, so knowledgeable to her, so common, was now something she dreaded. She knows, rationally, that jumping to purchase a house and some land halfway between Pittsburgh and the Alleghany National Forest was not a smart idea. She needed far more therapy and a few years living somewhere dry and snowless before she could confidently face winters again.
But she was nothing if not stubborn. And she told herself this was just extreme exposure therapy.
The hush money from Weyland had paid for this place, plus plenty extra tucked into savings. She was restless, unable to stay idle, and took expedition tours when she could get them, as well as consulting for other trips she would not be going on.
Anything south of Buenos Aires and anything north of Winnipeg was an absolute and automatic “hell no” at the moment. She had just started being able to stand being out in the cold without white knuckling a shotgun the whole time.
Her therapists came from the federal government. Some secret department that was big on aliens. She didn’t know the details, just that once a week she drove to a little strip mall and sat in what was clearly a former K-mart and talked with the same therapist, a man in a plain black suit and grey tie, about her nightmares and her experiences on Bouvetøya and promised that no, she had not told anyone about what happened, save for those on the Piper Maru who picked her up, and the Weyland execs who interrogated when she finally made it back to civilization.
In all honesty, Lex is most pissed about them taking her spear. She was gifted it after all. It was rude to take people’s presents.
It’s a Sunday, a quiet rest day for her. She awakens with the sun and with her sleep medication wearing off. Her house was an A-frame, an unusual architectural design for the area. Apparently some DINK hipster couple had bought the land and built the house at the height of couples destination getaways and when that bubble popped, tossed onto the market. It went overlooked for a long while, a combination of the unusual house design and steep price of all the land it was on making most people pass on it. It was the first and only house Lex had toured, loving it so much the moment she stepped foot on it that she signed the papers later that day.
It was a very open floor plan, the living room, kitchen, and dining room technically all one massive ground floor room divided only by where the furniture was. The upstairs only covered half the house, leaving the combined front rooms nice and open. The bathroom, mud room, and her little office were under the bedroom level, tucked away from the massive floor to ceiling windows that covered the front of the house.
Lex would be worried about privacy, but considering the amount of acreage she had, her the only voyeurs in the area were the deer and squirrels and occasional black bears.
She takes her coffee out onto the front patio, staring out across her land. Her house was in a cleared patch, with trees encircling her. A small dirt road leads up to her little garage, snaking out through a tunnel of woods until it got to the main road. It was quiet and peaceful and yet so dread inducing.
A few snowflakes drifted down from the sky, dissolving into her coffee, and she feels that sharp pang of fear in her stomach. In time, the land would covered in blankets of snow, and she would be facing down a replication of Bouvetøya. Not a strong one, but still one her psyche would freak out over.
It had been one year since it happened. October was shockingly quiet, November had come and gone, and now December and its snows loomed large over her.
In her nightmares, she still saw the serpents, hissing and snapping their razor-sharp teeth and crawling along the walls and ceilings and floors, encroaching upon her, surrounding her, trapping her. Their acidic blood drips on the ground and her clothes and her flesh and she screams from the agony of it until she wakes up in a puddle of sweat, shaking and whispering to herself again and again that it was just a dream.
And sometimes, although very rare, he is in her dreams as well.
That tall, hulking hunter who had ultimately saved her life and sacrificed his own. She sees his unmasked face sometimes, vaguely, although it’s blurry. Instead, he’s often that metal mask, tilting his head at her, waving his clawed hands to communicate, pranking her with that damn dead serpent. Sometimes she’s back in the temple, running for her life with him, or sprinting across the snowy surface from the giant serpent. Other times, they’re on the surface but there is an odd peace between them, standing side by side, watching the snow drift down from the sky, the moon high and full above them.
It's odd, but intriguing.
She had so many questions for him. Who he was, did he have a name, where did he come from, how was the hunt supposed to go, who was that on the ship she saw, how does she use the spear she was gifted.
He’s likely dead, unfortunately. He’d been so still and bleeding so much when the ship arrived and took him.
And here she was. Alive and navigating a life and world she felt she no longer knew. A brush with something otherworldly shook her to her core.
Snowflakes fall faster from the sky. Lex downs the last of her coffee and goes back inside.
