Head canon time-

Rose was everything to Pearl... she’s been mourning over her for a while now and is still super fucked up about it. Fast forward like 10 or 15 years or so- Steven and Connie are all grown up. Pearl and Connie trained a lot in the past so that Connie could be strong for/with Steven, and Connie as a kid totally had a teacher crush on Pearl b/c who wouldn’t. So anyways, Steven and Connie obviously fall in love and are bffs and everything and then something really bad happens- maybe a homeworld wrap up battle or something and Connie dies. Steven revives her but dies in the process. Connie is now pink and somewhat immortal? She’s super fucked up about Steven (the love of her life) dying, and after the funeral or whatnot she leaves beach city for a few years. She comes back b/c she misses the gems and feels more at home there. She comes back and her and Pearl bond over the loss of Rose and Steven and talk to help each other overcome death stuff. They spend a lot of time together drinking tea and reading and light training/sparring just for fun and they find themselves falling in love with each other which neither of them could ever imagine happening. Connie totally had a crush on Pearl during her training days but like she was a kid. Pearl sees Connie has grown up and both of them kind of calm each other down and get each other and they fall into a relationship. Also Connie grows taller than Pearl and has a bad-ass nose battle scar.
