For anyone who has ever been curious, this is how I chose my pen-name.

"Azuki" or "adzuki" is a type of bean. Back in my online Scrabble-playing days, I always chose "bean" handles for screen names. I was Garbanzo on various sites for years. I was Julie Bean too, and later, Ada Adzuki.

I chose to be called Bean because my ex used to call me Julie Bean (kinda like a jellybean, only sweeter, according to her) and I liked it.

I liked it all the more because it had become our little code for the word "lesbian". We'd be at the mall or something and she'd proclaim some cutie must be a bean, a lez-bean to be exact, and I liked that too.

To this day I still use that term occasionally, as does my partner (and now legal spouse) of thirty plus years.

So when I started blogging here on Tumblr around seven years ago, Azuki Lynn was the name I decided on.

Oh, and the Lynn part? That's my middle name.
