I love how I do the thought processes of my characters just as mind but with me trying to think like them-

Like just now thinking for Fungus trying to figure out who is on the otherside of the door, since if there is force being pushed back that means someone got to be on the other side, and them just weighting the options of who's there- like option one it's leinbury and he alreadly knows he's there- option two it's Tom and he doesn't know It's fungus on the otherside, tho why would he not say anything if that's the case- and option 3 that it's some other random person being tormented by Leinbury and doesn't know fungus is not/ not working for Leinbury, and with all those option the safest bet would be to just speak because worse case sceinario nothing changes and it's just needing to keep slaming the door open and best case sceinario it's Tom and they get let in-

Like all that is Fungus thought process just like faster than how I did- as I write this now I realize it could be some of these options combined but you know what Fungus is panicking they're allowed to be at my level of thinking TuT
