‘What Stares Back’
By Jeszika Le Vye
Created for the 2017 Month of Fear challenge: ‘Paralyzed’
“What Stares Back”
Things constantly move in the darkness, where there are no witnesses to the strange lives that flicker in and out of nothingness. And briefly, sometimes, some of those lives become luminous - for an instant flashing like beacons upon us, and we freeze, like a deer before a collision, as the darkness stares back at us.
*I also created this for the Light Grey Art Lab show - 'Swarm'. I'm so happy to have been included in this show - and goodness - the work I've seen so far is incredible! It's going to be such a great show! I love when different projects weave together so well and seeing the interesting combination!*

The binturong, my final piece for the @lightgreyartgallery SWARM show! 🦇🐍
Had a lot of fun researching the critters and weird and awesome fauna of the Borneo rainforest for this one. Like the strangler fig, a parasitic plant that slowly chokes its host tree to death, leaving only the hollow fig tree behind (happy halloweeeen)
>>>Prints of this and my piece for the PARALLEL show are available from Light Grey Art Lab here.
I’m so excited to finally show you my contribution to Light Grey Art Lab’s (@lightgreyartlab) Swarm show. My piece is based on brown rats “Often thought of as pest, these highly adaptable survivalists are actually shy, intelligent creatures. Often working in groups and capable of showing a great deal of empathy to each other.” 🐀 #illustration #fawnlorn #matthayton #lgalswarm #lightgreyartlab #swarm #rats #watercolour
She on Honey-Dew Hath Fed
Oil. 12.5 X 10.5 in.
Created for the @lightgreyartgallery show “Swarm.”
"All should cry, Beware! Beware! Her flashing eyes, her floating hair! Weave a circle round her thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread For she on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise."
(Adapted from Coleridge's Kubla Khan.)
Spider Summit – @theoldneedle
Inspired by gatherings of spiders that are usually territorial and do not cohabit space, but collaboratively weave vast webs in the trees during natural disasters and extraordinary circumstances.
Hand embroidered on to hand dyed woven wool.
