The Movement Advancement Project released a new report mapping transgender equality in the United States. They examined five main policy topics: nondiscrimination, youth, health and safety, ability to change identity documents, and adoption and parenting.
Based on these factors, MAP rated each state as having either high, medium, low or negative equality. High equality means transgender people are protected from discrimination and bullying in schools, have access to transition-related healthcare, can change their name and gender markers on documents, and are protected from discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations. Negative equality means trans people lack or are banned from having these protections. The others fall somewhere in the middle
So, where does your state rank in terms of each category and overall? Check out the graphics above, or read the full @lgbtmap report here.

NEW REPORT! This isn’t just about bathrooms, it’s about whether transgender students will be included in our public education system. Put simply, if trans kids cannot safely access a bathroom, they cannot safely attend school.
MAP & @glsen have launched a new report: Separation and Stigma: Transgender Youth & School Facilities looking at the harmful and unnecessary policies that exclude transgender students from accessing appropriate school facilities.
Thanks to National Center for Transgender Equality and NEA Today for their partnership on this report.
NEW RESOURCES: As states like Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma consider adoption discrimination legislation like SB 149 that passed in South Dakota on Friday, MAP has released new resources about these harmful laws that create a license to discriminate with taxpayer funds, hurting children and depriving them of forever homes. #licensetodiscriminate #SB149
