Audre Lorde Project x 15 years
As many of you know, the Audre Lorde Project is one of the organizations I admire and love the most, and they're celebrating their 15th anniversary this year! Please consider supporting them, and if you're free (and in NYC that night), please join them for their 15th anniversary gala next Thursday. It will be amazing and truly inspiring. Details are below.
To talk a little more about why I care about ALP… I was honored to serve on ALP's board for several years, and going back further (to the late 90s) as a youth volunteer. They're an organization that has shaped and sustained the queer People of Color community in NYC, from helping form and coordinate the People of Color contingent in the Gay Pride Parade in Manhattan every year to organizing trans & gender non-conforming POCs for economic and social justice (Trans Justice), to building new models of community safety and policing alternatives in the most heavily policed communities of color in Brooklyn (SOS). And theiranalysis on marriage equality from a multi-issue, liberation-for-all standpoint is still spot on and a must-read 12 years later. And they do all their work with a conscientious collective process and great accountability. From JK to Kris and Collette to the many other amazing people I worked with and struggled alongside, ALP has helped school me and true me as the kind of community ally I strive to be today.
I'm proud to be a major donor of ALP, one of the great community organizing and movement building groups to whom I give, with love. I hope you will consider supporting them, too, on their 15th anniversary.
