This is only concepts as of right now made for my portfolio, but if anyone is interested in making this an actual thing do send me a message!
Difficulty Explanation
Let's Go Hiking increases in difficulty as it continues with changes throughout being the environment, things that can happen, item spawns, and the enemies you face.
The same is present in the Endless Run but as you go on you're able to choose which difficulty you want to go through. This helps with collectable hunting and practicing if you're struggling with a specific level of difficulty.
Early Game/Easy
The trail looks relatively normal, simply overgrown due to years of being left forgotten and reclaimed by nature. The time noticeably changes with the game starting in the afternoon and the sun setting until it's night, when the game actually begins.
Before nightfall, if it's the player's first time, small tutorial messages will show letting them know how and when to use the camera, to find batteries, and to grab healing items which will spawn here and there to start the player off and prevent an instant death run without it being on purpose.
When night does fall, the player(s) are greeted by odd noises in the woods followed by the first of many twig snaps. If they turn, they're greeted with a glimpse at our first enemy...
Jeffery Woods
He stalks behind the player(s), choosing one to target if there are multiple, and plays on inexperience or overconfidence. Basically, if you skipped the analog tutorial in the cabin or think you're too good to pay attention behind you then you'll get jumped. Jeff is a chip away or DPS type of enemy, not wanting to go and spoil his fun too quickly. This makes him a good first encounter since it'd be impossibly to die at his hands with full health unless you do on purpose.
When he begins to stalk the player(s) there will be audio cues from behind, such as twigs snapping, laughter, and as he gets closer some footsteps and breathing. It's really hard to miss him unless you're actively ignoring him or focusing too much on whats ahead.
Looking back and catching him stalking you will cause him to become more cautious, taking his time to get closer and giving you more time to focus on any dangers ahead.
He can also serve as a motivator to progress, becoming more bold if you linger in one spot for too long.
He'll stalk you or your group with one target in mind that you can probably single out as he gets closer. He'll likely go for those with higher health at first, but if a majority of the group is healed and it's near the end of the easy difficulty he'll target whoever is at the lowest health.
Once he's near enough he'll jump out from the path behind and rush at his target. He's easy to deal with if you managed your resources right and have a flashlight as his eyes are extremely sensitive.
When he does reach his target, if their HP reaches 0, he'll stab them in the chest and carve a smile into their face. While he's on his target and slashing at their face, the target can flash him to drive him away or someone else in the group can.
Eyeless Jack
He stalks in the shrubbery, waiting for someone to get close enough or hindered by his tar before attacking. He's patient and may seem easy enough, but the hiking trail doesn't always make every encounter the easiest ordeal.
He specializes in making use of the random events that can happen, such as when the path gets foggy or extra dark. (More random events will be explained in the next post.)
When he appears his hiding spot can easily be found by his constantly dripping tar forming puddles and making noise. The tar puddles sitting around the path and the ones near his hiding spot have more of a use than just warning you though. Stepping in the puddles will slow you down and trigger EJ to jump out of his hiding spot and dash towards you.
Since he has no eyes he can't be deterred with the flashlight like Jeff. If you were lucky enough to find a weapon so early though, more about that on the next post, you can use it to scare him off. Otherwise, you'll have to make a run for it. For the slowed one that EJ is targeting, the others can surround them to try and block him from attacking them. Those defending will be slashed at in an attempt to create an opening towards his target. and if he does reach them he'll grab them, lift his mask, and then cover their face in the tar.
The tar will affect their vision and cause damage overtime. After EJ attacks he immediately runs off, being more of a nuisance and picking off the injured players than being a major threat. If the player's HP reaches 0 with the tar on their face they'll suffocate from it and die.
Ben Drowned
Quick Note: I decided to take out anything relating directly to LOZ since Roblox and Nintendo always had a thing with copyright strikes and I don't feel like dealing with that. Some small nods will be made now and again in the extras, but his design will remain being unrelated by default.
He floats in one spot and waits for someone to get near. Once in his radius, from the player's pov, they'll begin to sink into the dirt. To others they'll be standing still and staring off into nothing.
Ben can be found without the camera thanks to the sound of rushing water coming from him. He can also be seen through the camera but his presence will cause it to bug out and potentially disable it temporarily, making the latter method one you should only use if absolutely necessary. When he's noticed the camera he'll look at it, his gaze making it bug out and the battery drain rapidly before freezing up and being disabled for a period of time.
When someone goes too close, the affected player can't move or speak so it's up to either the others to go up and snap them out of it or for the player to will themself back to their senses. They have limited time before they begin to drown and take damage, sinking completely if their HP reaches 0 with their body continuing to stand still but dark water pouring out of their eyes like tears.
Why do I recommend it?: An amazingly good portray of the relationship of Reinhard and Kircheis, that manages to be romantic and tragic and psychological at the same time, the scenes well harmonizing with the lyrics and the music.
