when i was 10 years old i remember reading Previews (the phone-book girthed catalog for all things comic book / comic book adjacent) and seeing an ad that screamed "Wake Up and Smell the 90s!" just above a gnarly painting of every surly 1993 kid's favorite superhero Wolverine. it wasn't and ad for a comic or a toy, though... it was for this band i had never heard of named ENTOMBED. the album was called "Wolverine Blues".
i had just started listening to acts like Tool, White Zombie, Danzig, and the more immediately available "heavy" acts of the day, but but i still wasn't adequately prepared for what Entombed were putting out there at that time (don't shame me; all i knew about music before that was whatever radio station my mom had on the dial on the way to Toys R Us, who's playlists consisted of a regular stream of Gloria Esefan and selections from the soundtracks to Tom Cruise and/or Julia Roberts vehicles).
i know it's not one of the gatekeeper tested / cool guy approved DM records, and its been copied so many times that its become divided into something like 3 separate genres, but it was first, and i can think of no more succinct cross section of where my interests were and where they were heading.
