To The Fascinating Oceans

What started off as an idea really came into fruition when it was actually brought up to all the parties involved. Jude, as the otherworldly traveler desired to see more of what Efinea held, and two good friends he had made in this world wanted to both share those memories with him. It was only a matter of time until it clashed, and what better way to deal with it, than for everyone to share in the experience together? Only... it just wasn’t as easy as that.

Somehow they had managed to achieve the impossible, to create an opening for all of them, and to meet at this very place to travel across the seas of this still highly questionable planet. What lied outside of Windor? Outside of the countless books he had read in the castle’s library. Today, he was finally going to be able to find out, and with Asbel and Richard no less. This was a journey he made sure to commit every detail to memory, one he planned to never forget.

“I sent Richard a message a while ago so he should meet us here on time.” unless something had come up that is. “But are you sure this is the right spot Asbel? What if that isn’t the right boat? Can you tell the difference between them?” a mistake Jude had made in the past... Barona’s boats did look mostly the same. Getting lost in Barona was starting to become a bad habit, but with Asbel as a guide, hopefully they had arrived at their destination safely.

When what passed for the local police department had asked Alvin to go clear out “that lizardmen encampment over in the swamp”, he’d taken the job and mentally earmarked enough money for a new set of boots.

He mentally cursed himself for not doing a more-thorough investigation before he said yes. He’d thought he was familiar enough with this region not to hit any surprises.

Surprise: that lizardmen encampment was plopped straight on top of a tumbled-down ruin that looked shielded and powered by dark artes of the unpleasant kind, and double-surprise, there was someone else here, although Alvin wasn’t sure the other man had seen him approach.

Hmm.

Well, said someone-else didn’t look like nearly as much trouble as the pile of lizardmen. Alvin ambled carefully his direction, keeping the mangrove trees between them and the lizards.

What a pleasant place.

The locals had called it Lhant Hill, hadn’t they? He wasn’t familiar with the area and had only wandered up out of curiosity, but it may be one of his favourite places in this foreign country, so far. The breeze was cool, and the colourful assortment of flowers scattered across the hill were really quite nice to look at. They seemed completely different from the flowers in Seinegald, too. If it wasn’t so far away from home, he might consider bringing some back for Marian.

Right now, Leon is almost uncharacteristically relaxed, sitting in the midst of the flowers with his eyes closed and head tilted up, enjoying the peace and quiet.

Now that knew where the Lord lived, he could easily drop by to see how his new friend was doing. Of course if Asbel was busy with work, he’d leave his friend be and explore the rest of the town for a while before heading back. But when Jude approached the manor today, he saw the other doing something in the front garden he didn’t expect or... well it wasn’t weird, but the thought of it never crossed his mind even once.

“Asbel!” he called out from a safe distance as he inquired. “Do you need a sparring partner?” Jude couldn’t neglect his own training either.

How to make friends

Oh no.

.....

Renarin sucked in a breath, holding it in tight, swallowing it back against the lump lodged deep inside. A natural reaction to an uncertain event. Not that it was such a trying situation that would curdle the blood of the normal citizenry. But he was...

Well, he was far from normal. 

At least, that’s what people often told him.

He pressed his lips tight together, puffing out a big enough breath to inflate his cheeks. As though that very action assisted to contain the measly bravery he did have to use at his disposal.

.... he had a serious problem. He resisted the urge to shuffle his feet, his fingers keeping busy enough fiddling with the shiny bronze buttons of his jacket. 

Was.... was the stranger talking to him? How could he tell without looking awkward? 

Eyes flicked to the right.

Okay, there were people wandering by, but few paid the stranger any heed. So, that was clear.

Eyes flicked to the left.

Same situation, though the figures his gaze caught in his peripheral dashed off, roaming to chase after one another with laughter on the air. .... fine, so he wasn’t calling to any of those people either. That left---

Oh no.

He was falling into too long an unnatural silence. The guy was going to start looking at him weird. Or leave entirely.

Okay, okay, it could still be rectified. Adolin helped him with this. They practiced.

He walked forward, one step in front of the other.... as steps were supposed to do. He sat down beside the stranger. Yes, that was a good first step. He clasped his hands together to keep them from fiddling, setting them down positioned between his knees.

Okay, so he took the first step.

And he just stared off into the distance, afraid to blink, nearly afraid to breath.

Stormfather! He had no idea how to respond to that. He agreed with the sentiment, surely, but was he looking for the reciprocation of something specific? Was it codeword for something?

He got this.

Just act like his brother would.

He swallowed, leaning back against the palms of his hands, trying to flick his head back in a way that welcomed the warmth of the sun.

“Yup.”

Nailed it.

Sweat sweat sweat.
