I had a lovely Amtrak trek across the country in prep for @lidoctorwhocon …
Culminating in an Adventure from Penn Station to my hotel (it was late) with a hopped-up cabbie who made Athenian cabbies look placid. It may be a bad sign when all other cabs are honking furiously for tailgating or shoving around them.
But I lived, and the item I accidentally left in my haste to recover my suitcase and terra firma is replaceable.
Today for the first time since June surgery, I earned shouty pain from my arthritic knee which sulked and whinged at walking about five miles of Manhattan. Worth it.
I explored the Frick Museum, liberated a Pokemon I’ve named Detainee from the top of Trump Tower, and Zorked my way around The Mines of Moria, aka Grand Central Station, dragging luggage and my last erg like a tired lost Hobbit until I found the Long Island Railroad tracks somewhere below the Balrog. (Can you tell I grew up in a place too rural for sidewalks or sewers?)
After conserving phone battery to the other end of LIRR for an Uber to the con hotel, I had dinner with @paradoxymora (who looks spiffy in a Capaldi-just-got-the-role 'do), saw @suthecoder , her Dalek-building spouse, and Ken who works his ass off to make this con happen. I hugged and gave guide dog service to Katy being Katy.
(That whole first storey/second story BS seems like a trap for jetlagged UK guests, even those with better eyesight and less navigational creativity than our favorite zooty Who alum.)
Speaking of extreme myopia, I was so beat I didn’t notice the Thingie which hotel staff had thoughtfully left for me until after dinner and a shower, when I tried to crawl into bed and found it occupied.
I must try to return the compliment in the morning.
If anyone is at LI Who, say hi to the fem!Seven cosplayer with glasses, which is me!
Con hasn't started yet and I already got a Katy Manning hug <3
If any Gallifrey fans are going to Li Who please let me know because I have ribbons to trade and I’m worried people won’t understand one of them because it’s a Gallifrey quote.
I Found A TMNT Thing At L.I.Who, A Doctor Who Convention
This one was super interesting. The artist, Vinnie Patrick, creates these shadow boxes by cutting layers from all sorts of trading cards. He calls them “3D cards”. This one is 4 layers.
If anyone knows more about these cards, please enlighten me. I do know the frame used is from S01E02 of TMNT 1987. This is the only card I’ve actually seen from the set.
Steven Ricks, the tailor who made Peter Davison his spiffy new Fifth Doctor outfit for "Power of the Doctor," recently recreated the Eighth Doctor's "Night/Power of the Doctor" costume for Paul McGann, commissioned by the Long Island Doctor Who convention. McGann will sport his own cosplay at LI Who 2023 for fan photo ops.
