Newspeak and the Erasure of Truth
A Good Thread about the history of the use of false-equivalency by conservatives. Also: contains lots of informative links. Also Also: an incidental argument about the importance of knowing the history of arguments, where those who get them likely got them from, and what that ought to tell you about the people making them.
Thread on Paul Ryan, his Irish heritage, Free school lunches and the famine. I've always hated the narrative of the Irish immigrants as the ideal immigrants, and the idea that they came for the American Dream. They left Ireland as refugees. Remembrance Day by Liam Hogan [sci-fi]
Remembrance Day by Liam Hogan The comm icon flashes and my finger hovers over it for a long moment before I tap. Time, the Devourer by Liam Hogan [fantasy]
Time, the Devourer by Liam Hogan If you ask me, Midas had it easy. My name is Helene and I am the daughter of a god. Or so my mother always told me. Her husband, a captain in the Delian League, was not impressed by the divine miracle he returned home to and so, at the unusually early age of seven, I became an acolyte at the Temple of Aphrodite. The Temple recruited only the most beautiful…

The Gravedigger by Liam Hogan [horror]
The Gravedigger by Liam Hogan There’s a sharp ring of metal against…what? A gravestone? A coffin? I jerk upright, listening over the moan of the wind. Then I’m out of my cot, reaching for the greatcoat slung across the back of the wicker chair, stooping to lift the army rifle from the bench. It’s been a while since I’ve had to chase grave robbers from these grounds. Once, it was my reputation as…
