AGATHA CHRISTIE'S POIROT 3x09 "The Theft of the Royal Ruby"
Trademark! There is a subtle roundness to your art that captures the volume of your subjects really well. Even with a flat background or limited shading, they feel like they exist in 3D space :D
thank you, anon! Figuring out the fewest lines I can "get away with" for defining a form is something I've been really working on, actually. I feel like I tend to pile on hatching and detail when I don't quite know the shape in 3D space of what I'm trying to define, so when I notice myself start doing that, I do a bunch of erasing and try to slow down and visualize the volume of what I'm trying to draw.
watching "The Secret of Kells" in film club in college blew my mind, because the art style of that movie is SO bold and gorgeous, and prioritizes style and clear communication of a character's form and pose over tons of detail. Cartoon Saloon's other films share this art style too, but Kells was the one I saw first, so it made the biggest impact crater in my brain. I was captivated by the fae girl Aisling's design in particular:
I absolutely love the way her loose, floor-length hair is simplified into a mass that falls and curves harmoniously with each pose, and how her body is so expressive even though it's made of very few, very simple shapes. No line is wasted. The way I usually draw isn't nearly this economical, but that feeling of every detail being thoughtfully-chosen is what I want to work towards.

A fun thing about the kind of person who sees a post about how it's actually really fucked up that the default way for imperial core internet artists to produce merch is "outsource to services that pay pennies to workers somewhere in southeast asia to produce cheap trinkets with your designs on them" and decides to leave this kind of comment
Is that if you go to their blog it'll usually be full of posts talking about how generative AI users are irredeemably evil for using a service that exploits the intellectual work of widdle indie artists and pollutes the environment. Very fun kind of cognitive dissonance.
Using the evil slop machine to produce any kind of picture is a deeply morally reprehensible and exploitative act. Using the system of global imperialism to get acrylic charms with your drawings encased inside them made in a sweatshop somewhere in indonesia without having to pay anything close to a living wage for the people making them is the god-given right of any Artist and Creator™, and don't you dare criticize them for it, why are you pressuring small, independent creators?
#and its not even a good way to make money. my ex insisted we do this back in the day and we made 0 profit#just handmake stuff man @xaveria
🌇🕊️ MO(U)RNING DOVE
This is sort of an experimental piece that I've been excited to share for a while!! Mourning doves are common near me, and I always get a nice feeling of calmness when I hear them in the early morning, singing while perched on the powerlines outside. This illustration is dedicated to that feeling.

The Department of Education worked with the far-right Family Research Council to officially designate March 12th as Detrans Awareness Day last year. But what actually leads people to detransition? It's not regret, but social stigma, incited by the very figures who claim to protect detransitioners. I want to hear their stories describing how the current moral panic influenced their decisions.
ads these days are so sensitive to being tapped like darling my fingers barely brushed you and youre already opening yourself for me... well close those damn legs. dont make me get the taser
Epstein is a symptom and not the disease. He was a product as much as he was a producer of global conditions. That’s true for any official or unofficial leader. There’s a danger in reducing the contradictions of a system to a very recent personality.
There’s also a danger with doing this in historical analysis - the “great man/villain of history” limits how we see the past too. Nazism wasn’t fully reducible to Hitler either and was a product of particular conditions that made Nazism possible.
It seems the general consciousness has shifted from blaming Trump for why everything in the world sucks to Epstein and that doesn’t really fix the problem. If not Trump, if not Epstein, it would be some other villain. The problem is greater than one or two evil personalities. What kind of society rewards such people, welcomes them with open arms? What did his guests and associates find appealing about such a man with such wealth and influence, why did his social, financial and military ties keep him evasive of accountability by his peers for so long?
There was a financial incentive to do so, national security interests involved. That’s far deeper than Trump or Epstein. The foundations themselves were rotten enough for long enough to foster such pestilence.

The women's category of Olympic sports will be limited to biological females from 2028, says the International Olympic Committee.
"this will keep out pretty much all intersex people and a lot of black women but oh well! btw men don't have any such test to go through"

#has anyone mentioned how this opens up every woman competing to even more sexual abuse than #she would have most likely already experienced in the process of elite athletic training? #like any woman who wants to compete is being told that the price of going to the olympics is being molested like #this is a structural component that is now part of the rules #misogyny#transmisogyny#sexual abuse#we need to talk about these 'exams' as sexual violence bc they are
Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
