hello sweetheart, thank you for sharing your thoughts! That's interesting, I think I hadn't heard this theory before 👀 When you say "Louis' birds", do you mean his "fat bird" on his arm? I can't remember any other bird tattoo he has 🧐 or do you mean the 4 tiny bird outlines on his arm?
Because you mentioned Louis' bird tattoo, I went down memory lane. (and ouch 🥹)
According to Kati @bulletprooflarry's fantastic tattoo timeline, Louis got his bird on 23 January 2013, the same day and by the same tattoo artist Harry got his handshake and butterfly tattoo on and from, Liam Sparkes. Louis also got his paper plane and the 78 (which is the house number of his grandparents) the same day.) Here is a great post about it:
Liam Sparkes’ flash drawing of the butterfly and ‘It Is What It Is’ was done in 2010, before H&L. Which means this mention of Papillon is intentional. As @bulletprooflarry said “Louis and Harry both have a piece of the flash inspired by a movie about Henri and Louis escaping prison.” One must wonder, what that metaphorical prison is to them. Liam Sparkes: “We started off with a butterfly on his torso based on an old French prison tattoo inspired by Papillon. Traditionally it would mean the wearer is a thief - something to do with the double meaning of ‘Je vole’, which translates as both ‘I steal’ and 'I fly’ - and is commonly tattooed on the throat.“
So it bears thinking why Harry got an expressively Papillon-themed tattoo that's inspired by a novel of a Henri & Louis escaping from a prison island by jumping into the ocean together, because they cannot fly on the very same day that Louis gets tattooed a bird. (and then H wrote If I Could Fly 2 years later, which was very obviously about/for Louis)
