[ TOUCH ] for sender to trace one of receiver’s scars from Fergus :3 @libdemdisaster
It’s one of those rare occurrences where Eve’s still working after Fergus has shut his red box for the night. Luckily it’s a small enough crisis that she’s sitting at his desk rather than making the journey from Downing Street to Vauxhall. It feels less arduous when she’s able to stay in her nightie and a light robe, not having to quickly pull on clothes suitable for MI6 and M.
She’s so focused on the task at hand - watching with baited breath to see if James can get himself out of this jam without further help - that she doesn’t notice Fergus, bless him, putting a cup of tea down in front of her. It’s only when she feels his hand on her now exposed shoulder, his thumb tracing a scar she’s almost forgotten about, that she remembers the world around her. “Thanks,” she murmurs gratefully, knowing Fergus won’t resent her unwillingness to look away from her screen just now. He, of course, gets it.
When he continues rubbing the same faint line, she realises he might be seeking an explanation. “Madrid, one of my first assignments. Before I’d learnt not to turn my back on someone holding a knife,” as she speaks she raises her hand and rests it on his, knowing her explanation will probably have unsettled him. “Don’t worry, darling, I only made that mistake once.”
