Traders found guilty of conspiring to fraudulently manipulate global benchmark interest rates
It’s all well and good that people were convicted, but they weren’t the most guilty parties in this hot mess - that would be the CEO, the CFO, Chairman of the Board, and the five top highest-paid employees. Forget having the companies paying fines (just a cost of doing business) and jailing little fish; put he people at the top, the most guilty, in jail for a long time. Take away their second and third homes, and go confiscate their wives’ jewelry. Hit them where it hurts.
Here’s the biggest indictment:
The men told the court their bosses sanctioned communications on Libor rates, that they sent emailed Libor requests over corporate message systems in full view of compliance staff and that rates commonly reflected derivatives positions at the time. (Known as marking your book)
