download Hashman Deejay’s new set for Libra Mix
This dollar bin heatwave bouquet was recorded in NYC last summer during Hashman's residency at CZ Wang's residence. Hip hop, jazzy house, highly recommended ride. 1:49:53
Libra Mix’s 72nd installment comes courtesy of Hashman Deejay, a Mood Hut family member and one third of Aquarian Foundation, and CZ Wang. Played in New York, grown in Vancouver, it’s another scorching set from the hottest mix platform on the planet. Download this one by heading here. You can carry the Pacific rhythms deeper into the weekend with his stellar Boiler Room appearance from a few years ago below as well.
LM067: Liam Butler (PSS) – Grip the Mix #6
Liam Butler of Vancouver’s Pender Street Steppers is back with another installment of his long-running “Grip the Mix” series for Libra Mix. It's his sixth entry for the site and the 67th cataloged mix overall, and “Draining Cans in the Jardim” is a nice addition to a hard drive that has been quickly filling up with the sounds of the Pacific Northwest all year long.
Set aside an hour to cruise through Butler’s soothing selections and island rhythms. Recommended for rainy days, late nights, and to those in need of a little relaxation. Stream the mix above, or grab it and many other world-class sets off Libra Mix's website.
LM063: Unknown Mobile – Koots Roots (Interior Grooves)
This mix is a completely unexpected transmission from BC's famous Kootenay region. It's just a very relaxing and interesting mix recorded in Nelson BC. Since BC is on fire right now, we hope that this music will help to clear the smoke from the air and cool the temperature down a few degrees.
Libra Mix is back with a great new installment from Unknown Mobile, the British Columbian producer and Summer Cool associate who released his Chime, Flower & Fountain Cures tape last week. This set features an hour of soft and spacious rhythms that are sure to put you at ease, so sit back and unwind with his top-notch “interior grooves” in the stream above or by grabbing the file off their site. Also, check out his new album below and look for his contribution to Summer Cool's Two compilation next week.
LM062: Jay L - Gemini Mixxx [4 Adults Only]
Here is a mix from our friend Jay L who lives and breathes in his hometown of Bristol England. What can I say about this mix? If you like music you are gonna really like it, so many fantastic selections and just a great vibe from start to finish.
Shouts to Jay!
LM061: RAMZi – Big Bird Mix
Libra Mix brings you the 61st entry in their world-class series courtesy of RAMZi, the alias of Montreal producer Phoebé Guillemot. She brings you nearly an hour of diverse selections for the Canadian curators, weaving voice clips in and out of free jazz, colorful rhythms, and New-Agey lounge tracks. It’s perfect relaxation music, but if you’re looking for something a little more out-there (and by that I mean “not even of this planet”), you’ll want to check out RAMZi’s SoundCloud when you’re done. It hosts a wild collage of her own exotic, futurist sounds that spans 3 years. Catch a track off her 2014 LP BÉBiTES below.
Mood Hut: Mixes from the Canadian Riviera
Some of the finest house music in the world right now is coming out of the Canadian Riviera. Vancouver’s music scene is thriving with independent labels and record stores right now, an underground hotspot for collaboration and creativity. Adding a splash of coastal spirit to vintage house grooves, Jack J and his Mood Hut crew are leading the Glass City’s fresh wave of dance music. Slowly expanding out of an era of cassette releases and into critical acclaim, Mood Hut – alongside a stable of local affiliates – is a collective you’ll want to be keeping up with.
One of the highlights of the Vancouver scene is Libra Mix, a site that hosts a number of mixes from the city’s top artists, including extensive appearances from the Mood Hut team spanning back to 2012. Updated fairly often, their sprawling archive has been the soundtrack to my spring, and it’s been a fantastic way to get acquainted with the best the Riviera has to offer.
To familiarize you with the music of Mood Hut, I'd like to run down a few of their finest contributions to Libra Mix. After the break, check out five of my favorite selections from their archives – right-click and "save as" on any image to download each mix, or stick around and stream them on the blog.
