We joined this community just over a year ago, and we have found a treasure trove of beautiful images and fascinating histories from fellow special collections #librariesofinstagram. We love the friendly and collegial spirit of #ig_libraries and the monthly challenges, and we are grateful for those of you who have joined us in exploring our collection through photographs--all 500 of you! We're a little late to get on the #librariesofinstagram's #westernwednesdays train--if only we had a Steam Man to get us there sooner! We love the handsome simplicity of this #boringbutbeautiful binding, but these covers conceal something truly amazing. This is the first complete Bible printed in the Western Hemisphere, and it is written in the Natick or Massachusett language of the Algonquin people. The #ig_libraries challenge for March is #boringbutbeautiful, which we found challenging indeed--after all, what's boring about working in a special collection? But we were intrigued by the incentive to celebrate beauty in the everyday. Let's start with this quirky little paperclip, found among Marianne Moore's things. The Rosenbach's Marianne Moore collection is the perfect place to look for beauty in the ordinary, as Moore saved many of the material objects she encountered in her day-to-day: fabric swatches, event flyers, small decorative objects. Moore fans will be happy to know that at long last, we will be offering our Moore room tour next Friday--and will be announcing the reopening of her room very soon. [Paper clip.
