Best, Most Boring Day (w/ pictures)
I slept in!! A pre-christmas miracle!
Intending to have a nice sit-in to write in my favorite coffee shop, I ordered a yummy sandwich and my favorite chai latte (the spicy one I crowed about before).... only to realize there was no place to sit.
Womp womp. I had to grab everything to go, and ate in my car, so no pics. But it was tasty. And thank goodness I was skating after because it was a lot of food.
And here’s the highlight of my day:
IT’S FREE REAL ESTATE!!
You don’t understand, it is never this empty when I skate. Lunch sessions for the win! I got my grapevine down, practiced some moves in the field, and got reacquainted with last season’s program (long ass story). I was able to do whatever I wanted, and OH MY GOD I did the best spin I’ve ever done, and the tracing was just picture perfect. Sadly, I don’t skate with my phone, so I didn’t actually get to get evidence of it-- which my coach teased me for later.
I skated the whole session (the longest single session since my injury--YES!) and then dipped out for the writing session I was itching for. Visited a new library!
I know right? How could I not have used this one before?! They have these comfy seats that have lap desks, and lemme tell you, I did not wanna move again.
But I did. I ended up going back to the rink to skate for another hour, and then stuck around for an off-ice class with my coach.
I didn’t do as much writing as I’d hoped, but I did push more boundaries than I thought I would. With the writing, I’m filling a prompt that has been kicking my ass, so I did something I’ve never done before: I worked my way backwards. Finish to start. And... it worked?
Because I had the whole day to work with, my coach moved our private time to a new session-- one usually reserved for axel and up. Now, I do not have an axel. Not even close. But I went, and I was able to keep up with the other skaters, and I didn’t trip anyone up.
These skaters are SO FAST, and they have so much power. I stayed in a limited area for most of it, but during the warm up we were all going every which way, and it felt so surreal that I was able to match their speed.
So... it’s been a good day. A great day. I think it’s exactly what I needed to get through the holidays.
