1) a book you loved?

The Girl With All the Gifts, by M.R. Carey

This may be cheating a little bit because I just finished the book so it’s still fresh in my mind, but. Holy shit. I don’t want to give too much away because discovering the world of the book is way too much fun but: This has zombies, Greek myths, complex and wonderful female characters, science, blood and guts and gore, and one of the best endings I’ve ever read, ever. Fun fact: it’s also a bestseller and a staff pick at the bookstore where I work, so. PLEASE READ.

3) the best kissing scene?

Grasshopper Jungle, by Andrew Smith

Natch. Austin kissing his best friend Robbie on a mall rooftop, unsure and confused and noticing that Robbie tastes like cigarettes. This comes pretty early on in the book but it was enough to send me screaming like a wild banshee through the next 200 or so pages, which I finished in under a day. I’m trash but it’s fine

Lovely Little Losers is a webseries adaptation of Love’s Labor’s Lost, a sequel to the webseries Nothing Much To Do (an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing). The story is set in New Zealand and is reworked with high school students (later, college students). this is all i think i can say without giving too much away; a lot of the plot works out according to what happens in the play but it is also wonderfully interpreted and written and genuinely acted with beautiful songs and LGBT characters and ho nestly im v. emotional abt it, as you can see. it’s made by The Candle Wasters and their next project is Bright Summer Night, an adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream!

hi! i just wanted to send some words of encouragement re: those snippets of krem/harding fic, because they're a DELIGHTFUL pairing and you're writing them WONDERFULLY. there's not nearly enough fic for these two, and i was so excited to see you writing some! hooray for krem/harding!

how did the neil gaiman thing go?? i want to hear all about it!!

SORRY IT HAS TAKEN ME SO LONG, I’VE BEEN SUPER BUSY AND IT’S ANNOYING.

SO. i basically got to spend the better part of the day with neil gaiman and it was AWESOME. a few other students and i got to have lunch with him AND HE SAT RIGHT NEXT TO ME and he just said really smart things the entire time. he was really warm and nice to everyone and he just really wanted to make everyone happy. we talked about why jesus wasn’t included in american gods and how hansel and gretal is really about hunger, and the importance of coraline and brave girls. one of the things that really struck me was how he said that reality doesn’t have the same obligation to be believable that fiction does and i just sat there like HOLY SHIT. then we went to a sound check thing and at one point dr. rodgers was like “i just really want someone to go up there and start reciting jabberwocky” AND HE DID IT. OUT OF NOWHERE, JUST TO MAKE HER HAPPY. then we went to the alumni house and i helped him sign books and he personalized a signature for me. i also asked him about gender in his books - particularly american gods - bc one of the things we talked about in our class discussions was the sausage fest that is that book and at first he was like “wellll idk” but then after talking to me for a little bit about it he was like “no, you’re right, it is a bit of a boy’s fest” so that was nice. he was also telling us bits about the american gods tv show that’s in the works and also the sequel he’s writing for it!

then the actual speech he gave was really lovely, he was funny and really at home on the stage, you could tell. he talked about terry pratchett, which was sad then and is now even sadder in retrospect. so basically the entire day was super great and i really enjoyed meeting him!! i was glad, bc i was kinda worried he might be a bit of a dick (i always have that fear). but he was super warm and welcoming, it was great.
