It’s for the best that Steve Yzerman hasn’t started a cult yet, because I’d be in it.

It’s funny that the Capitals thought Vrána was lonely so they bought him a friend but then his friend looked lonely so they bought his friend a friend, and then they tossed Vrána and Vrána’s friend’s friend, an alchemy-like process to transfigure Michal Kempný from a sad boy into a sadder boy.

Listen, I personally am not quite capable of caring enough about sports to feel bad about them right now. For everyone who’s invested and feeling bad right now, I’m really sorry. My real thoughts on the trade:

Good for him. Vrana’s on-ice opportunities have always had a ceiling, which was Ovechkin’s bottom. The log-jam at left wing is an unavoidable consequence of a good (great) thing. But he may have more opportunities to make a difference on the Wings, too.

I believe Vrána could pull off a letter for a team one day, but he was never going to wear one for the Capitals. The Capitals’ atmosphere spins around Backstrom, Carlson, Oshie, and Ovechin. They set the tone, and it’s a good tone, but it means he’s always been, in comparison, more of a social satellite. Even if they all broke their legs tomorrow, Wilson is crown prince and Kuznetsov would be his consort: they set the tone for every new or young guy who joins the team. I think it’s notable that Wilson and Kuznetsov have been proponents of Vrána and manufactured opportunities for him to practice leadership by interacting more with the new guys, but he can’t be their duckling forever.

The Wings obviously have their own leaders, but they’re looking for more personality, on and off the ice. People are saying that the Yzerplan might be to build partly around Vrána: I think Yzerman knows as well as anyone that you make fans and keep them by having a distinctive style of play and a distinctive personality.

Vrána loves Madison Bowey. Madison Bowey loves Evgeny Svechnikov. By the transitive power of BFF-dom, E Svech now loves Vrána, and I wanna see them hug.

Not gonna lie, I spent a good chunk of the afternoon and evening being a very mopey motherfucker, but I’m doing my best to rally and consider things from all angles. I do appreciate the concern, though :)

Also I tripped going up the stairs on my way home from Costco and spilled almost an entire thing of Kirkland brand detergent all over my front steps and it’s raining here so my front walk is a sudsy minefield so I have things to distract me at least. Not GOOD things. But very distracting!

What is the evil plan involving the Flyers, exactly?

this plan really circulates around the devils, the flyers are just a byproduct.

i recommend referring to my posts tagged evil plan, i’ve explained it all in detail here.

a quick overview - the devils are 3-0-1 against the p*ns this season, and i want them to have a first-round playoff matchup, because i believe that is the best chance of the p*ns being knocked out early. and obviously, i very much want that.

for this to happen, devils need the third metro spot, and in doing that they need to leapfrog the flyers and jackets. when i first came up with this plan a few weeks ago, the devils were trailing both of them by a decent amount, and i mentioned that they’d need to go on a wicked run and cbj and philly would have to lose a lot.

jump forward to today, when the devils have jumped philly by a point and trail cbj by a point. i desperately want this first round matchup to happen, so the devils need to keep winning and the flyers and jackets need to keep fucking losing, thanks

Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine?

I’d want Spider-Man (either Peter or Miles) to be my lab partner because science is his thing and he’s friendly enough to make it somewhat enjoyable. 

I’d want to be trapped in an elevator for ten hours with Batman because I know he’s got food on him and gear to make sure we have a good signal and, well, he’s prepared for this sort of thing. He has tracking beacons and when the ten hours are up, I feel like I have a good chance of being rescued by Dick, Tim, Cass, or Damian. (Steph and Jason would let him sweat it out for longer.) 

Wolverine (Logan) can be my employee trainer because he was fantastic in training Kitty to be a ninja and I feel like these things are comparable. Even better would be Wolverine (Laura), although that might be a one sided situation.

So it emphasizes the unreal-ness of the warcamps. Their artificiality. How separate they are from the "real world." But at the same time, the whitespine in a menagerie shows the power of the elites of Alethkar, the literal might and force that Alethkar can command. And how that might and power is not being used to defend the people of Alethkar, but to fight the Parshendi.
