Heated Rivalry fans not knowing about Sid and Ovi is reaching the point of absurdity. like what if there was a huge worldwide Veggie Tales fandom and none of them knew the Bible existed
Fic idea #2: Jack, after retiring, decides to write hockey-accurate hockey romance. Once again, Bitty is mortified when his mom's book club reads it.
Suzanne would absolutely trick Jack into attending said bookclub to prove she wasn’t bluffing
👋 Hi Wellies,
First—
Ukazu says, a rising tide lifts all boats, including the S.S. Check, Please! She’s hopeful that the success of Heated Rivalry, as well as another queer romance graphic novel-turned-TV show Heartstopper, will make the dream of seeing her work onscreen into a reality: The book has been optioned for adaptation. — Vanity Fair
Check, Please! has been optioned for a film/television adaptation. A while ago, actually—and that’s lovely. Nevertheless, the vast majority of options do not become television because it takes a million things going right to get projects off the ground.
That being said.
Ahem.
Speaking of getting projects off the ground...
From when Bitty first stepped out into the rink at Faber, to when he kissed the ice at graduation, we've all been part of this fun, weird, magical world of Samwell hockey. But when I left the world of Samwell hockey, I left knowing Jack and Bitty's story was done. Bitty's journey as the first openly gay NCAA Division I hockey captain was done. We baked the last pie; we shut off the lights at the kegster; the story was complete.
…But as I looked around I realized, I had one more story to tell.
Which is why I'm thrilled to announce that a brand new volume of Check, Please! will be serialized in 2026. Dozens of new comics, exciting update drops, your favorite characters with brand new storylines, and characters you've yet to meet.
Hello, Internet Land—SMH is coming home.
This fifth year of Check, Please! will be filled with shenanigans, drama, hockey, pies, Haus parties, and a new message of acceptance that is near and dear to me. And it's been brewing over the last year and half! But with the latest boom in queer hockey stories, I figured, hey! ¯\(ツ)/¯ Here's another one to look forward to. :)
Marginalized athletes still face harmful bigotry, and for this reason, queer sports stories are more important than ever. I love Samwell hockey and how each of you has embraced this roster of athletes.
There's so much more to come.
Ngozi 🏒🥧❤️

MORE NEWS? SURE:
I'M SO CALM AND NORMAL ABOUT THIS
You should get an AO3 account
With the rise of AI and the well known epidemic of AI companies scraping Ao3 for training data most authors on Ao3 have locked down their fics to logged in users only. This is unfortunate for authors and readers. As an author I've noticed a steep drop in readership on fics restricted to logged in users and when recommending fics to my friends I've noticed that the folks without an account can't find the fics. The logged in users only toggle, not only keeps people without an account from reading a fic, but also from seeing its listing at all. More than 50% of fics I come across have this setting turned on. So, you should get an AO3 account. I know this seems daunting and unfair because it's an invite only system but, you can invite yourself through the homepage if you don't already have one, and in the past few years I've never heard of someone who requested an invitation through this method, not getting one. And for those of you who are hesitant because you don't write, that's okay. It's not weird at all to click on a commenter username and find that they have 0 works and 10,000 bookmarks. It might take a week for the invitation to actually show up, but I can almost guarantee you will get one, just keep an eye on your email. It's free to join and donations are optional. You'll have more to read if you have an account and maybe give your favorite author the chance to protect their work from AI without a loss of readership and feedback.
I have some invitations if anyone wants one :)
Bound: Pucks and Recreation by @doggernaut
If you follow my main account, this might seem familiar. That’s because I released the podfic of this the other day. I felt bad for taking so long to finish it (it was for Fandom Trumps Hate) so I decided to send the author a bound copy of it as well. The USPS was uncommonly efficient and it made it to her in two days, so it’s a good thing I released the podfic when I did!
I’m really happy with how this came out. I have nothing to complain about. It definitely makes me want to stick to matte htv from now on, that’s for sure.
Body: Corundum Text
Titles: Franklin Gothic
Drop caps: Primot
Cover graphics: the Noun Project
Oh wait, I thought of one tiny thing I’d fix: when I initially printed it, I didn’t notice that the font I used for the section dividers (which were cute little hockey sticks) didn’t work for some reason, so I had to change to more generic section dividers. So if I could go back, I’d take the time to find a different hockey-related section divider instead.
So not a big deal AT ALL. Even I will concede that.
Anyway, if you’re a fan of Check Please or Parks and Rec (and especially if both!) read this delightful fic or give it a listen!
This is, quite honestly, one of the most amazing things I've ever received in the mail. As a reporter I've seen my work in print hundreds of times and it's always a thrill, but being able to hold a fic! that I wrote! that somebody liked well enough to turn into a bound book! is on an entirely different level.
I keep marveling at the "copyright" page and the bookmark and all of the other little thoughtful details that went into this. Pucks and Recreation is, to date, the longest fic I've written and while I of course have the original draft and can download the version published to ao3 at any time, being able to take it off the shelf and look at it is something else altogether.
Thank you, @sweatersinthesummer, for this amazing gift!
(For anybody reading this, I also want to put in a plug/reminder to add a permissions statement to your ao3 profile in the case some wonderful fandom person wants to create a podfic/art/translation/whole damn book based on your works. I, for one, hope to take a bookbinding workshop this year and I already have a list of fics--maybe yours is one of them--I'd like to try to bind,)
Friends, allies, I come to you now with a request. I’m mentoring a young woman applying for scholarships to afford college and there used to be a ton of resource posts floating around tumblr that I can’t seem to locate anymore (or are out of date since I saved them).
Does anyone have current links to posts that compile scholarship opportunities, text book resources, etc? Or links to websites with resources?
I know this is a very broad request, I appreciate all suggestions.
Soooo Halloween 2023 Bitty and Jack go as Benoit Blanc and his nice husband Paul for Halloween? Yes? Yes.
Update and Little Aurora
Hey all, so it’s been a minute and I just wanted to let you know I’m kicking off an Our Flag Means Death sideblog @apirateshipfortwo, because the little gay pirate show has gotten me writing again, and I‘ve updated Little Aurora with what I had written up to slipping out of OMGCP because I still love y’all a whole bunch and didn’t intend to leave that way. (But it’s not polished or complete, so keep that in mind.)
Still flitting around, still writing madness, and sending all my love 💜💜💜
You know. I feel like a lot of us agree that Jack is Loaded™ but isn’t flashy about it. And I love that but I raise you (1) date where Jack is trying to impress and he does something stupidly extravagant like rent out an entire yacht for a night or something. Like I’m sorry I just want to watch jack drop 30k on a night for Bitty one time and Bitty is standing there like “oh shit, I did actually marry my sugar daddy, 16-year-old me is losing his fucking SHIT RIGHT NOW”
I know I’ve been away for a million years but if anyone has leads on OFMD discord servers I’ve been writing again and need to DISCUSS SOME THINGS
Okay, team! Consider this your heads up that a Check, Please! podfic fest is coming soon! Any ship, any length, any experience level. More details to follow but I am exciiiited!! Follow, reblog and watch this space! 👀
Check please writers, if you ever thought it would be nice to have an audio recording of your work, now is a great time to think about adding a permission statement to your profile and/or tagging your fic #podfic welcome!
A very important addition!
If anyone wants to podfic my stuff FEEL FREE
I would cry happy tears if someone made a podfic of any of my fics. I have the permission statement on my AO3 fic.
I added a permission statement a while ago and would be thrilled if somebody were to make a podfic of one of my fics (found here).
