Realtor vs. Licensed Real Estate Agent
These terms are erroneously used interchangeably, and there are significant differences. Primarily, REALTORS® belong to national, state and local associations that promote cooperation and ethics between members and their clients benefit from that pledge. The sale and purchase of real estate is susceptible to various challenges in a process that involves a lot of money, and working with people who know what they are doing and can protect their client is paramount.
A licensed real estate agent, who possesses a license and attends the minimum continuing education every two years, is not typically in an office where there is experienced broker oversight. While it is their obligation to stay current with the evolving real estate industry, it is difficult when their attention is not focused on real estate as their primary vocation.
Buyers and sellers who use the services of a REALTOR® are usually very happy with their experience and work with the same real estate professional again with future transactions. Those REALTORS® who consider themselves career-minded stay current with the industry trends, are individuals who deliver services in a way that their clients expect, and eventually realize over 80% of their annual business in referrals from past clients.
