Lichen Porn and Defunct Adjacent

Before I begin today's lichen missive, I have to comment on a recent bit in the press about how the Tumblr reader is cool and hip.  My son (the 17 year old who has started on a life of crime because of my lichen obsession) said people are only on the Tumblr because of the porn.  I have never seen the porn because I follow mostly science and gardening blogs.  (How is that there are so many people making nature forms out of yarn & thread?)  After giving it a big think, however, I believe what I post is lichen porn.  It has no real value or purpose, it is merely for pleasure and excitement.  The legal term is, I believe, prurient lichenology.  If I am offending anyone, cast your eyes elsewhere.    

I live, almost surrounded, by a now-defunct TINY christian college.  The grounds are used by several different organizations and overseen by an overzealous poison lover.  The man has never seen a plant, other than grass, that he won't spray or chop into submission or death.  A couple of years ago he used so much weed killer on the weeds at the base of a laurel that he actually killed the laurel!  

Sadly for him, the lichen is standing up to his assault.  The more he chops and sprays the more it grows and spreads.  HA HA HA HA HA (the capitals denote maniacal laughter.)

Please note the shriveling leaves in the foreground and the robust lichen everywhere else: 

I am having a bit of a classification crisis regarding "crusteous."  Viewed through magnification I have yet to find a lichen that doesn't have some dimension, so I am not sure where the leafy lichen / crusty lichen line lies.

I am not sue of the variety of this tree but I see many potential lichen pockets and I love the way the trunk seems to be outlined in fuzz:
