having a concern for @liesforaliving
He’s known Bobbi to stare down a shade with the best of them, and the only time he’s seen even Steve think twice was when Bobbi was so furious she nearly took out a monitor. A consumate professional, an old hand as they said at this whole paranormal investigation business, which was why he watched her so closely. To read the room was to read Bobbi, and what he saw now was making him start to question whether they were making the right call on starting tonight.
“Hey.” His eyes flicked from her face to the spirit box in her hand. A pang, wondering if he’d perhaps missed something; there was a reason he wasn’t often given the device. A tendency for the frequency to mess with the one he relied on to hear. “You ok?” And because he couldn’t fucking help himself. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

"Bobbi." Her words hit him in a way he hadn't been expecting. He'd always made a point of watching out for his team and keeping them safe. What they did on their downtime wasn't something he could control. Nor was it something he would control. They were responsible for their own actions and should it interfere with the team then he would step in. But as far as he knew nothing had happened. At least nothing that would have her coming at him like that. The mission hadn't been easy and most of them came back with bruises, but Steve had kept most of them safe. That was his job and he made certain they always came home in one piece. But something was bothering Morse and he wasn't about to let her walk away without finding out what that was. "You want to tell me what the hell that means?"

he lost left the spare key at home @liesforaliving
It’s funny, he thinks, how every apartment building seems to share the same carpet. Was there a bulk sale back in the 90s that every landlord and management company jumped on? Or perhaps it’s a one time sale thing and the carpet just grows back. He’s honestly not sure. But he knows it’s an easier question to ponder than exactly what his excuse is going to be this time.
Lucky whines, softly, and he glances over. Giving a soft huff to match. “I know, bud. Think I used pipe bursting last time. That can happen twice though, right?”
Nails scratch the five o’clock shadow he’d swore wasn’t there an hour ago. Whatever the excuse will be, he knows Bobbi will see right through it. And part of him wonders if perhaps just being honest up front isn’t the best option. Should he have just brought the food? Should he just say I’m worried and wanted to see what’s up?
Nah.
(You can’t let on like that, Clint, c’mon.)
Unresolved, he knocks. Ready when the door opens with a lazy grin, hands in his jacket. “Fridge went out. Yours still running?”
“Why are you still here?! Why won’t you just leave?! Why won’t you just leave me like everyone else?!” - from Bobbi @liesforaliving
Fuck, this was familiar. Clint had never outright said the words to him but Sterling always felt this emotion behind each of his outbursts. He'd asked himself that question a few times. Why did he stay by Barton's side all this time. Even when everything seemed against them or when everything tried to pull them apart.
But Sterling could always ask Clint the same question right back.
Despite the weight of the situation Sterling felt almost comfortable being screamed at like this. He knew this emotion came from the broken and he knew it was always toward people they cared about. To Sterling, this was a compliment. These words meant he was doing everything right. His voice was low and calm as he spoke back to her, not backing down in stance or eye contact.
"Because I don't know how to give up on my friends. Maybe that makes me an idiot but... I'm not going anywhere, Bobbi." It was the first time Sterling had called her by her first name. "You're worth it."

❝ There’s obviously a lot to unpack here. ❞
“What if I told you that whatever you think you saw, you didn’t?” he offered hopefully. He was pretty sure he knew exactly what she’d seen, and it was a guy who got brutally murdered by something out of a horror story that she somehow tracked down back to his place of business the next day. He was obviously fine now, which made the story she had to have figured out seem pretty crazy - except that the facts she knew were true. “Unless you’re talking about a creme brulee latte, and in that case, it’s way less effort than you think.”
