A Year of Changes and Lots of Learning (Taken from Facebook March 10, 2016)

Okay, so I have officially been in Naples, Italy for a year today! I’ve accomplished a lot in this year, definitely learned a lot as well. I can say, this year has been amazing, yet I have missed things in America. I miss my family and friends, Dunkin trips with Bella, and Common Market runs with Lori. Besides that, I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of this year in Napoli! Through ups and downs, all round, amazed on how life is going. With that said, I will recap on things I’ve done with this year. I have learned so much from the people here, especially listening to them speak. I can now say I have learned to follow and fully understand almost a full conversation in Napolitano (the dialect of Naples), even in Italiano as well. I can watch movies and TV shows and understand almost everything. The next step to is to learn to speak it! Now, that’s what is going to take some time and dedication, but I CAN DO IT!

I have visited many places in Naples and surrounding areas. I have rode the metro and walking many, many miles to see places with Maria. Those are the days and times I loved the most. Experiencing this with her has been amazing. Adventures every day to discover new places within this huge, beautiful city. I spent all last summer at the beach, who doesn’t love the beach, right?! I have been to the Amalfi Coast, Capri Island, Pompeii (briefly, going back soon), and Rome. For a year, I think that is pretty dang awesome! Florence is around the corner!

I’ve tried a ton of Neapolitan pizza, yum... Don’t even get my started on that, or I’ll have to go get me one. There is simply NOTHING like it! Fried pizza... *mouth waters* UGH! Now, I want one. That’s how good and delicious they are. Okay, besides the pizza, EVERYTHING I have tried here, I absolutely love. You can ask Maria, I eat EVERYTHING and a lot of it. Don’t ask me how I have not gained weight here, because I don’t have the answer. Pastas, meats, sea food, BREAD, etc. etc. so amazing here. They say Naples is the masters of street food, I am beginning to understand why. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I do miss me some good ole American food. Maria cooks us some every once and a while. So don’t worry, I do get a good taste from home!

With all that said, I love it here. It’s so beautiful and I’ve learned so much by coming here. Life is so much more laid back and less stressful. Yes, you might have to get up early to run errands because places close down for lunch or early here, but that I can so deal with. You have more time to enjoy the little things in life. Here’s to more adventures and discovers this year, and I hope to see you all soon.
