When a simple fall changes life forever
When I was 17 and 1/2, weeks from turning 18, I was roller skating and I fell on my knees and hands, and at the time I unknowingly had just sprained my left arm. By some strange power I didn't realize I had injured myself for two weeks, and when I finally realized I did I went to the doctor and got an X-ray of my arm. After my arm was wrapped up they came back and asked "Have you ever injured your arm before?" I looked at them confused since I had only injured my right arm before, ironically while roller skating, and it was then that they told me I had a bone whiter than others in the X-ray.
I was then sent to a horrible hand specialist where I was diagnosed with Kienbock's Disease. This disease actually occurs when you're a developing baby and you end up developing all but one vein in your wrist, and once you're born it's just a matter of time before the bone with the missing vein begins dying from lack of blood supply. The disease is rare and often occurs in men instead women, but the pain it causes... you can have the biggest enemy in your life and you would never even consider wishing this pain on them.
This blog, while it's a few years late, is to show my journey from diagnoses to now, two surgeries and a missing tier of bones later.
