These elevators are an essential piece of who I am. It’s crazy to think of the things that contribute something to a person’s life. The elevators to the third floor of this hospital are a big part of mine. #home #LGH #childhood #lifehood #thisis29 #reflecting
Happy #NationalGoodNeighborDay! What are you doing to show a little extra love to your neighbors? #sharethelove #goodneighbors #lifehood #friendsandfamily #goodfriends #goodtimes (at Dothan, Alabama)
Chase your dreams now as hard and as far as they will take you.
Practice. Practice. Practice.
While you're young--explore. learn. destroy. create. love without apology.
Here's what you need from school: Arithmetic, Reading, Writing, Critical Thinking, basic Social Skills*...the rest is shit or at least only important if you get to push past the shit and learn the cool stuff from it.
But none of that matters. What matters is that eventually, if you work hard enough and do what your teachers and parents and advisors tell you, you will be sitting somewhere with debt and an empty wallet and an empty stomach and it's somehow 3am and every single name of your contacts seems like someone you no longer know as well as you once thought.
There will be an ache in your chest like your heart just went missing and left a mean old boxer who's hitting at your breastplate with every pulse. There'll be a pang behind your eyes that says you're exhausted but you can't sleep because there's far too much to do and you've already come so far and you can't get THEM off your mind.
And the wanting.
You know how much you want to escape now, how much you want the door of your classroom to burst open and some brilliantly cool and well-dressed version of all your favorite characters to grab your hand and like the doctor tell you to "Run" and you will, you totally will...?
Well, that doesn't stop.
Once you leave the world of whiteboards and standardized tests and circular lectures and slick-papered, 100 pound textbooks of doom behind, once you escape it all...you know what you'll want more than anything?
To keep going. To keep running. To keep chasing something bigger, better, more real, more tangible, more exciting, more you.
well, maybe not.
Maybe you'll be satisfied with the new desk or the counter or the cash register or the whatever it is that keeps you fed and housed and distracted on weekends or weeknights or whenever you get a tad bit of free time.
Or maybe you'll be like me, and never satisfied, bouncing from place to place, job to job always wanting, needing...something different. It's not only never enough, it's never good enough. It's never real enough.
And you'll be at some job in some town at some age which used to seem so new yet so old and all you can think is "what the heck do I want?"
I wish I had asked that sooner. I wish I hadn't answered it so fast.
