Ororo had never hid her wariness of the Phoenix. She had witnessed the way it possessed her best friend’s mind, and while she trusted Jean implicitly, she was the first to admit that the Phoenix did not necessarily need to find a new host. For a time, it and Jean had been friendly, and from her understanding, Jean had invited the Phoenix into her mind personally. It was not something that Ororo faulted her for, though she truly wished it had never occurred. Jean Grey deserved far better than being paranoid over a cosmic entity. Jean had once mentioned missing the kinship they had had as well, another thing Ororo never criticized. Roaming Egypt alone, she was the first to understand the wariness of being lonely. Out of that very concern, and with understanding of what a complex issue Jean was facing, Ororo purposely began a conversation about the Phoenix on a regular basis. If Jean was being threatened, they could handle that issue, and if she was simply mourning the loss, it was best she had someone to discuss it with.
Rather than meet at Xavier’s, she had chosen to visit Jean at her home. Students were never intentionally nosy (Ororo liked to believe that), but rumours traveled very quickly throughout the halls of the school. As she entered, calling out a greeting, Ororo immediately poured two glasses of time for them to enjoy. “How was your day?” She asked Jean, looking up at her friend with a smile. “I had a very… interesting lesson. A student nearly blew my head off with an explosive mutation, I’ve never witnessed anything like it.” She was exaggerating, but it was a much more entertaining story that way. As she crossed the room to sit beside Jean, Ororo asked, “How are you doing with the Phoenix?” She had never been one to avoid the difficult topics.
