Life of a bullet
It's dark, I can't see a thing no matter which way I look. It's hard to breathe and all I hear is the muffled sound of voices from above. They sound angry, like they might be yelling. I'd shiver if I could, but I can't move, I'm paralyzed and cold, and I can't remember how I got here, or who I am. Where am I? I want to shout, I want to ask whoever is yelling where I am but I can't speak. I'm anxious to move, anxious to leave this place, wherever it is.
I can hear the yelling getting louder now, it's so close I can even make out some of the words; "Get up, do you think I'm bluffing? Listen to me or I'll kill you right now!" The words make no sense, but I hear a small click and I shudder. I hear something else too, it sounds lighter, but like it's crying; "Please, I'm sorry, please don't…" I want to reach out to the voice, to tell whoever it is that everything will be alright, I suddenly forget my own anxieties, all I want to do is see who the voice belongs to, to comfort them any way I can. But suddenly I feel myself being thrust out from my dark space, a deafening noise hurts my ears as I take a deep breath and spiral through the open air. I hit something soft and warm, the warmth envelopes me as I yet again wonder where I am.
I don't hear any voices, just a soft, slow banging nearby; "ta-thump, ta-thump." It seems to grow fainter with every second "ta-thump…" Another sound, like an angry cry comes from the distance, it's so loud that I can hear it perfectly clear even from here. The noise is so close now that I want to scream for it to stop, and it does stop just as suddenly and abruptly as it started. It's replaced by new voices; "A neighbor called about hearing shots, I've got a pulse but it's faint." I can hear the "ta-thump" noise as only background now.
I feel movement, like lifting and then a smooth forward motion. Before I can even try to understand what's going on, a bright light blinds me and someone is lifting me up into it. I know I must be dying and yet there's only two things on my mind; what happened to the crying voice, and when did the "ta-thump" stop? I feel my body dropped haphazardly into something hard and metal. I hear more voices, "That's it, we lost her, time to call time of death 10 P.M." I still don't understand, but I feel myself slipping into the dark. The light is growing dimmer with each moment that I think, why was I only brought here to bring pain?
