Vegan.
It’s World Vegan Day, which isn’t just about not eating animals but the impact of animal agriculture on our environment and health. Factory farms are enormously damaging to the environment, and it’s widely studied and proven that animal products can be damaging to human health. There is also a reason the public isn’t shown the entire process of animal agriculture and its supply chain. The smell alone, let alone the visual reality, would freak a lot of people out and drive many away from eating meat. Most people aren’t aware that a lot of diseased and sick animals are sold to slaughterhouses at a lower price and it goes directly into our food supply which humans eat.
Farm Sanctuary has a good series about animal agriculture facts.
Farm animals are the most abused animals in the world, with little rights or laws to protect them. Cows, pigs, horses, chickens, goats, and turkeys, are no different than domestic animals like dogs and cats. They have unique personalities, it is well proven they have intelligence, perception, and feel things (sentient) like fear, loss, and love. They choose who they want to be friends with including other animal species than their own, communicate, love to play and cuddle, and are very loving, caring and intelligent.
Cows sob and shake in fear with giant tears when they realize they’re going to be slaughtered, pigs jump off moving trucks trying to escape when they’re being transported, baby calves call for their mothers when they’re separated from them immediately after their birth in the dairy industry. The milk intended for them can’t be given to them to use for cheese, milk and other human consumption. All endure unnecessary cruelty and abuse from workers like whipping, kicking, beating, burning, and other torment, as well as inhumane conditions and confinement.
Many people in our country are outraged that other countries mistreat, farm and eat dogs. But, it’s really no different.
Everyone has the choice to eat what they want to eat, and that’s supported here. Today’s post just shares some of the basic facts.
There are dozens of farm sanctuaries in our country. Meet a few of them and the animals they care for, and learn more about their work:

On Sundays, Little Beach can be a wild (naked!) place to view the sunset, but it is entirely vacant during the sunrise, making for a peaceful solo (clothing optional) swim in the amazing blue waters.
