Lamp in a Little Shrine Outside Traditional House, Varanasi, India..
Which else shall beautify a home..
But the flame of a lovely diya...
Which else shall adorn the mind...
But the light of Wisdom Deep ..
Light a lamp and cast your flame onto the water...ease your minds and breathe in deeply of serenity.. As your body releases its tension, let your thoughts drift into a plane of beauty... when our spritual and physical beings are sweetly merged...our world is coloured anew.. A lamp is lit daily before the altar of the Lord in almost every Hindu home. In some houses it is lit at dawn, in some, twice a day – at dawn and dusk – and in others it is maintained continuously - Akhanda Deepa. Knowledge removes ignorance just as light removes darkness. Furthermore, knowledge is a lasting inner wealth by which all outer achievement can be accomplished. Hence we light the lamp in reverence to knowledge as the greatest of all forms of wealth. Whilst lighting the lamp we thus pray: Deepajyothi parabrahma Deepa sarva tamopahaha Deepena saadhyate saram Sandhyaa deepo namostute I prostrate to the dawn/dusk lamp; whose light is the Knowledge Principle (the Supreme Lord), which removes the darkness of ignorance and by which all can be achieved in life...

Learning and Migration Program for AIF
Hey, Tumblr! AIF is the American Indian Foundation, and it’s a cause that’s close to my heart. The Learning and Migration Program through AIF helps create schools in India for children who need it. I visited one of these schools once, and it amazed me how all of these kids had a desire to learn so they’d have a better life. Without this program, most of these kids would have never had a chance at education. You’d be surprised how much a $25 dollar donation could do for these kids. So, if you can, I’d like you to donate through my fundraising page. It’s perfectly secure, and it’s going to a good cause. Here is the page: my.aif.org/lightalampmanali . Thanks so much! If you want to learn more about the program, you can visit AIF’s blog at http://aif.org/blog/lightalamp/
