So the other day, there was a “switcheroo” (a great band name by the way) in that a physical-release-less album was posted. Pushing boundaries again tonight, but this digital only album led me to a forthcoming first time on vinyl release of Mazarin’s 2005 album We’re Already There, one of my favorite records from the aughts. Philadelphia’s Quentin Stoltzfus is the song writing force behind both Light Heat and Mazarin. This album posted here, V, continues the heady pop craft from Light Heat’s 2013 self-titled debut. Couldn’t really find any info on the We’re Already There vinyl (originally released in the US by I and Ear Records), but it does include digital download of rare and unreleased songs.

Perhaps it is fitting that The Moles (Australia) follow Light Heat.  This song “Beauty Queen of Watts” is featured on the new release “Tonight’s Music” (that link will take you to the other released song “Out of Thin Air” and the album page), and really reminds me of some of the sounds of Mazarin or Light Heat.

Fans of The Moles know that really, they have a sound all their own.  Yes, you can hear sounds of The Clean (after all, Hamish Kilgour was the drummer on “Instinct”).  But really the only thing to compare this to are Richard Davies, Cosmos and Cardinal.  

I have found that Fire Records gets their stuff out in the U.S.  So perhaps you can get this for under $30.

Fans of Quentin Stoltzfus (Philadelphia) undoubtedly know of both Mazarin and Light Heat.  Micah and I saw Mazarin open up for Rogue Wave.  They were so good, and, then we left (no need to watch Rogue Wave).  I’ve always thought that Mazarin sounded like a more rocking Velvet Underground.

This new song “The Silver Light of the Late Night” has a guitar that reminds me of Jerry Harrison circa “Remain in Light"or “Fear of Music”.

Apparently, Light Heat have no plans for a tour and a new release is planned but will be forthcoming in the distant future.  In the meantime, to satisfy the rule police, here is the link to their excellent debut on Ribbon Music.
