So the part 2 for the Sideswap AU has been sitting in my drafts for a week and I didn't notice ;v;

Au where all the dark sides are light sides and all the light sides are dark sides and Patton (heartbreak) is considering leaving the dark sides, sides: Logan (Apathy), Roman (Pride), Patton (heartbreak), Virgil (Vigilance), Janus (Self-love), Remus (Imagination), possible references to orange as Thomas's sense of justice would be loved but are not nessecary

I have decided that I want to start an AU. I want to include other fans in this so send me AU ideas. At some point, I’ll probably ask for ships, last names, and other ideas because I really want to have others involved. Thanks in advance!

Characters: Heartbreak!Patton, Pride!Roman, Apathy!Logan, Vigilance!Virgil, Self Care!Janus, Imagination!Remus, c!Thomas

Pairing: None

Warnings: Mention of breakups, mentions of betrayal

Summary: Patton meets the Light Sides and Thomas and wonders if maybe he should move to the Light Side. The biggest issue is convincing the other Dark Sides.

Patton can’t believe it. He can not believe that he is actually considering leaving his friends and going to the Light Side. But here he is, sitting on his bed with his head in his hands as he debates the pros and cons.

It all started when Thomas was going through a bad breakup. The guy had broken up with him out of the blue and Thomas had been heartbroken. Fast forward six months and Thomas still couldn’t manage to move on. So, the three Light Sides had called Patton and he appeared in Thomas’ living room.

Once Patton had been introduced, the group went through why Thomas was feeling this way and how they could help. The weirdest thing was, they actually asked for and listened to Patton’s input. 

Eventually Thomas came to a satisfactory conclusion and the four Sides sank out. Patton was surprised to find himself in the Light Side common room with the other three sides.

“That was great!” Self Care said happily. “We managed to fix the issue and introduce a new side.”

“It was perfect,” Imagination agreed. The third side was silent, watching Patton.

“Something wrong, V?” Self Care asked. 

“That didn’t go as I expected,” Vigilance said, more to himself than the others. Without taking his eyes off Patton, he elaborated, “I didn’t think Heartbreak would want to help. I thought he would be bitter that Thomas was repressing him and the other Dark Sides.”

“Why would I?” Patton asked, speaking up for the first time. “It made Thomas a good person.”

“Yes,” Self care agreed. “However, I think it’s time for Thomas to start embracing all of himself. It will help him if there isn’t anymore discourse in his mind.”

“Oh, that would be fun!” Imagination crowed. “All the Sides in one place? How great.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Patton intervened. “I might not be bitter, but Apathy and Pride aren’t as...forgiving. They aren’t your biggest fans.”

“That’s okay,” Self Care said reassuringly. “We can have you move over and get them used to this idea and to us. Plus, we can’t have Thomas meeting you all at once. He might get overwhelmed.”

Vigilance seemed to notice how tense Patton was. “It’s okay. You don’t have to decide right this minute. But, here’s a peace offering.” He took a deep breath. “My name is Virgil. Self Care is Janus, and Imagination is Remus. You don’t have to tell us your name, but we do want to work with you. Just think about it.”

All Patton could do was nod, sinking down into his room.

That led him to the present, sitting on his bed with no idea what to do. Logan and Roman would be heartbroken (pun intended) if he left them. They would be angry too, but maybe if he explains it...

One thing keeps coming back to the forefront of his mind; Thomas. The Light Sides seemed to think that having all the Sides united would be good for Thomas and who is Patton to argue with them? They definitely know Thomas better than Patton or any of the Dark Sides. If this is what is best for Thomas, could he really say no?

Mind made up, Patton leaves his room and heads to the Dark Side common room. Predictably, Roman is watching a Disney movie, while Logan is reading a book. Neither of them see Patton walk in.

Patton takes a deep breath. “Guys I need to talk to you.”

The other sides look up. Roman pauses his movie and Logan closes his book. Both look expectantly at Patton. 

Patton swallows thickly and decides to dive right into it. “I talked to the Light Sides and Thomas today.”

Shock is apparent on both their faces. “You what?” Roman is the first to recover.”

“They needed my input on a problem. They were kind and they listened to me. Perhaps they aren’t as bad as we thought.”

Silence dawns on the room and it becomes obvious that Roman and Logan aren’t going to say anything, so Patton continues. “They seem to think it’s time for Thomas’ mind to become united. No Dark or Light, just sides. And they’ve invited me to join them on their side while we get Thomas used to having new sides. You guys would join us eventually. I just...wanted to tell you.”

Patton waits anxiously for their reaction.

“Patton, you do know they’re just playing you, right? Sure, maybe they do want you around, but they’ll never accept me or Logan. We aren’t meant to be Light Sides and you are. You’ve always been more than just Heartbreak.”

“You’re more than just Pride,” Patton argues back. “I think this is a good opportunity for us.”

“For us or for you? Because the way I see it, they’ll welcome you in with open arms, but you’ll never be trusted. Every time you do something wrong it’ll be thrown back in your face and eventually they won’t want you anymore. You’ll be right back with us.”

Patton can feel tears welling up. “That’s not true! It’s-”

“I think he should go.”

Stunned silence follows Logan’s declaration. “You what?”

“You should go.” Logan’s tone is even and calm. “The Light Sides may be right. Having all the sides together may be the best thing for Thomas and Thomas knowing all parts of himself could be beneficial also. If Patton needs to leave us to get Thomas and the Light Sides acclimated, then he should go.”

Roman fumbles for words, but can’t find any to contradict Logan. Patton beams.

“Thank you Logan. I better get ready!”

He hurries out of the common room. Logan waits a minute then turns to Roman. “You weren’t completely wrong. We’ll have to be careful with how we proceed.”

“What happens if they hurt him?” Roman asks almost hesitantly.

“If the Light Sides hurt him, we’d be there for him. We’d welcome him back and things will go on as normal. And-” a manic glint appears in Logan’s eye, “we’d make them regret betraying his trust.”

Roman smiles. Yes, yes they would.

Thank you ~ I may have gone a little overboard with this one, he is barely recognizable as Janus. But, ok, I’m no character designer I just go with the aesthetic ok!!!

I feel like this version would be if Janus introduced himself with a better approach instead of pretending to be Patton. He looks like he would come and take Thomas on a journey of self discovery haha

Okay I didn’t want to redraw Roman’s so I just sort of tidyed up the original concept sketch? It’s low effort probably, I was too busy dying over infinity limits to care

Janus is mostly white roman is mostly black but I don’t have colors to make the distinction more obvious
