kolkata victoria park  is located on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kolkata. Every year, domestic as well as international tourists visit the memorial gardens. The memorial was created as a tribute to Queen Victoria as well as the success of the British Empire in India. It also houses a museum which is now currently maintained by the government of India.

Contents of the museum include:

Paintings Statues Arms Miniatures Sketches The art which is showcased in the museum is of the pre-independence era. Owing to this very reason, a lot of tourists flock to the park as well as the museum in order to explore the history of India.

History of the park:

The memorial was completed in 1921. Ever since then, it has been maintained pretty well. The gardens are spread over 64 acres. 21 different gardeners have been hired to work as a team in order to maintain the gardens. A bronze statue of Queen Victoria has also been installed in the premises of the garden. The statue has been designed in such a way that Queen Victoria is shown sitting on a throne. The designer of the sculpture was Sir Bertram Mackennal. Some of the other statues which are present in the garden are: Rajendranath Mookerjee Andrew H.L Fraser Dalhousie Bentinck Ripon

Timings:

The garden is open from 5 AM in the morning to 7 PM in the night. It is open on all days of the week barring Monday.

Light and Sound Show:

There are also light shows which are regularly featured in the garden. They are conducted from evening 7:15 to 8:00 from October to February and from March to June, they are conducted from 7:45 to 8:30 in the evening. The light and sound show is fantastically coordinated owing to which, it is a sight to behold. If you are visiting the gardens, light and sound show is a must attend. If you want to reach the gardens by railway, the nearest railway station is Howrah Junction. The Victoria Park in Kolkata is not just any other kind of garden which you would come across the country.
