Neil island: the part of your andaman trip you didn't know you needed 🏝️
If havelock is the island everyone talks about, neil island (now officially shaheed dweep) is the one that quietly steals the whole andaman itinerary. no big resorts, no traffic, just four beaches and a pace of life that makes you stop checking your phone.
here's the full breakdown if you're planning an andaman tour in 2026 👇
🐚 bharatpur beach — first stop for most people since it's closest to the jetty. calm, shallow water, good for beginner snorkeling, plus glass-bottom boat rides if you'd rather stay dry and still see the reef.
🌅 laxmanpur beach — the sunset beach. white sand, tide pools, an open horizon. if you only catch one sunset your whole andaman holiday, make it this one.
🌉 natural bridge (howrah bridge) — a limestone arch carved by literal decades of wave action. only visible at low tide, so check tide timings before you go. wear shoes you don't mind getting wet, the rocks are slippery.
🌄 sitapur beach — aka sunrise beach. rockier, quieter, better for photography and long walks than swimming. worth the early alarm.
getting there: neil island is about 40km from port blair, roughly 1.5–2 hrs by ferry. most people pair it with havelock since there's a direct ferry between the two (~1 hr), so you're not backtracking through port blair. book andaman ferry tickets ahead during peak season (dec–feb), seats go fast.
how long to stay: one night is enough to hit all four beaches at a relaxed pace. two nights if diving, snorkeling, or doing absolutely nothing is on the agenda.
best time to visit: oct–april. calmer seas, better underwater visibility, fewer ferry delays. monsoon season (may–sept) can mess with ferry schedules, so plan around it if beach time matters to you.
quick tips: carry cash (atms are limited), rent a scooter to get between beaches, expect patchy network in parts of the island (feature, not a bug).
