Colors in Never Let Me Go - Blue
I know the general consensus is that green represents danger. However, I don’t really think that’s the case in Never Let Me Go. I noticed an intense use of blue in some scenes instead -- some actually represent danger which mostly happened almost immediately after or during the presence of the color, and some, perhaps, just being there for I’m not quite sure why. Also, when I mentioned danger, it could or could not be a life-threatening event.
Blue lighting (+ red exit sign) prior to and during Phiphop getting shot.
Blue lighting behind Palm when he got back from the basketball practice. I just can’t seem to determine how this made me feel. The scene happened probably one or some days before Palm saw Nueng and Ben kissed, but right before Nueng came to him to talk and scold him a little about their assignment.
Blue lighting at the back of the door/window prior to the fight at the dance party.
Blue lighting + setting/props at the hospital room where Nueng was admitted to after the cafe fight and his alcohol allergy.
Blue + red lighting during the time Thanya and Chanon waited for Nueng.
Blue setting/props at the bus terminal when Nueng and Palm needed to escape from Bangkok.
Blue lighting during the wedding party of David and Wu. If I remember correctly, there were lighting colors other than blue being used as well. I’m not sure whether to see this as a sign of any kind of danger/threat or not.
Blue lighting when Chanon chased the people that he suspected attacking Thanya, but then getting framed off.
+ No blue lighting, but red exit sign, during Nueng confrontation with Mam’s kidnapper. The scene included Nueng being pointed gun at. In a sense, paralleled to the scene where Phiphop being pointed gun at, and getting shot.
I’ll see if another blues will make any appearance in future episodes. Also, to note, in some of the scenes above, the blue colors might fall on a gradient that leaned more towards purple shades.
