Okay, can I just say I have found a lot of your posts disconcerting lately. From an American, may I just say, please Canada, don't stoop to our level. Be better than that! We are a mess and things are scary and you don't want to be like us!
I’m doing my best to try to avoid this kind of rhetoric gaining hold in Canada, by spreading awareness and debunking racist rhetoric that is going around.
Recent events in Canada and around the world are very concerning to me.
Canada has always had these kinds of issues, though (racism has been an issue in this country since its founding on stolen native land). I think its just that Trump’s victory in the US has shone a light on the problem, and has encouraged some racists here and around the world to be more fearless with their hate. I don’t think that Canada has suddenly became this hateful place, its mainly people are finally paying attention to some of the serious issues going on in this country (which have always been going on).
I'm about to turn 32 and I'm still in school, working on my MA. Granted, I didn't go to college straight out of high school, but still. Your accomplishments make me want to DO something.
Hello, this must be one of the nicest messages I’ve ever received. Thank you so much!
I’m actually often pretty disappointed with myself (especially now, given how slowly I seem to be progressing in my reading list). Your message truly made me smile, so thanks again!
I wish you all the success in the world with your studies. I think the fact that you got to experience life outside academia before going to college gives you a different edge and perspective on things. I hope you are using this to your advantage!
Best of luck!

Ben Carson is crazy, I'm not at all surprised he said that.
He does seem to be one of the Loose Canons of the GOP with a new WTF moment every week.
To that anon: I felt the exact same way when I first started grad school and it is something that has not quite left me. Honestly, some of the grad school blogs on here are what keep me sane, because we all feel that way and we are all in this together. You are not alone.
Thank you. You are indeed a light as winter comes.
Re: parliamentary vs presidential systems. I am actually touching on this in my graduate thesis. As an American, I think a parliamentary system is preferable, especially in terms of districts and representation in our federal legislature. Because of our institutional structure, women and PoC have a much more difficult time breaking into politics, especially in a meaningful way.
