First came the rain; the icy water spluttering down in sheets from the sky. Savera peered up, grey clouds overhead darkening the forest. It continued pouring, sliding down her arm and sending shivers ricocheting through her body. Her body began to shake from the cold. I should've gone back for my jacket. Her weak body set off at a run attempting to find shelter, the dirt from the floor covering her boots as she did so.
Next came the thunder; the roar rippling through the arena. Savera stopped dead, body frozen. She flipped around, wet hair shaking off the excess rain water. The roar of the thunder rippled through the arena once more, louder than ever. Go, run! Adrenaline shot through her body making her sprint through the forest at top speed. She knew what would come next.
Finally, the lightning; a bright white light burst through the sky, blinding Savera. She stopped, blinking the brightness out of her eyes. She heard the thunder once more, and began counting down the seconds. 1,2... There it was again. She knew it was too close, and she knew there would be a twist from the gamemakers. She shot off like a bullet, turning left and carrying on through the forest. The only thing she could think to do was run until she was far enough away from it.
Savera whipped around, hearing a loud crash just metres behind her. One of the tallest trees dropped to the ground, taking other smaller trees down in its path. She continued running, pushing herself to move faster and faster. Another bolt of lightning shot through the sky, hitting a tree just behind Savera. It crashed to the ground, Savera only just lucky enough to leave with just a scratch down her leg. Panting, blinking the rain out of her eyes, she ran for her life. I refuse to die this way. She needed to get away from the trees, and fast.
She tried to search frantically for a route she knew, but she couldn't tell where she was going, blinded by the flash of lightning and the sheets of rain. She slipped through the forest, attempting to keep herself upright. She found a clearing just 100m away, but she was losing her energy quickly and the lightning was catching up once again. She forced herself forward, ignoring the numb pain in her legs and the cold in her body.
Edging into the clearing, she fell to the ground and wiped the small amount of blood off her leg. She pulled her knees to her chest and covered her ears with her hands, ignoring the violent thunder around her. Her body gasped for air, shaking nervously as she sat on the grass.
