Germany is now reportedly having second Thoughts about acquiring 35 F-35 Lightning II Stealth Fighter Aircraft because of the United States (US) controls over its Software that allows them to disable the entire Aircraft if they want to.
Joachim Schranzhofer, the Chief of Communications at the German Defense Company "Hensoldt AG" confirmed to the Magazine Publication "Bild" the existence of such a capability of the US over the F-35, and said that the Aircraft's Mission Planning System could be disabled by the US to keep the Aircraft from flying if they want to.
Quoting what he said, "The ‘Kill Switch’ in the F-35 is more than just a Rumor. But it’s much easier to use the Mission Planning System – then the Plane stays on the Ground."
MY NOTES: This ability to disable the Mission Planning System (US) by the US is already on top of the daily Code required from the US to operate the Aircraft, as was reported a couple of Years ago. I don’t think I was able to post about that before, I will try to one of these Days.
This is why it is important for any Fighter Aircraft Buyer to have access to see and change the Source Codes if needed. However, the US don’t allow that for most of their Customers. Sweden does, but they have their own Hang Ups also as shown when they denied the Sale of their JAS-39 Gripen Aircraft to the former Administration of Rodrigo Duterte.
Note that other European Combat Aircraft themselves likely have similar Restrictions and Controls also, and they also don’t allow access to their Aircraft’s Source Codes. So I find it a bit hypocritical for them to talk about it on the F-35, but not on their Aircraft also.
