New Releases (Set Two)
Lights Align, John Elefante, Eisley, Daft Punk - 06-05-2013
Lights Align - Before After - While the freshman release from this new worship outfit opens with with great potential the overall album does not live up to the expectation. Blending modern musical trends with the safe and tried and true does work for the most parts but I still found some of the songs to be uninteresting. Still even with it's flaws this album is more interesting and creative than recent releases by worship mainstays. If given a chance this album could really reach a large audience. Listen and you will probably like it. John Elefante - On My Way to the Sun - If you like Kansas, Yes, or Transatlantic this album is for you and it is really good. A shining example of progressive rock being alive and well today. While still have all the shredding guitars and sweeping vocals of the 80's rock movements this album also is still in touch with today. I really dig this album and if you give it a chance I think you will like it to. Will massively long song and great writing this really is a good record. Go get it.
Eisley - Currents - Let me get this out at the front of this. I love this album. Hands down one of the best of the year. Eisley's brand of rock is ethereal, driving, and poppie. Yep, it is full of contradiction, just like life. A bit more cheerful this time out as the members lives have changed for the better since the last album. This album is just heavenly with soaring fantastic vocals that also can haunt you in your sleep, driving beats that don't leave the music stuck in the mud of it's own earthieness, and top notch song writing that grabs you and makes you want to listen over and over again. Go now and buy this album, do it now.
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories - To be honest I didn't want to like this record at first. Kept hearing about how great and fantastic it is. Then it won me over for a while only for me to realize just how ridiculous the album is. The retro 70's dance funk thing works for me for about the first 5 songs or so but once Lose Yourself to Dance comes on the gimmick starts to lose it's luster. Get lucky is a silly song as are several other tracks on the second half of the album. I don't know how much playability this album will have down the road but I am enjoying the first half of it for now. Give it a listen it may be for you but it's not for everyone.
