she remembers the snow & the blood & the BETRAYAL that rang in her veins. the last time she’d seen reina, they had been on opposite sides of a chasm in the planet. now the chasm is in their minds, their hearts that had always been connected -- now as dark and unfamiliar as the other girl’s eyes, the sharp angles of her face, contorted in rage as rey flays her with her accusations.

❝ i never asked for that, ❞    she snaps back, forcing herself to be the calm to reina’s storm. there is no emotion, there is peace, hadn’t luke said?     ❝ i looked for you for weeks. i thought you were being tortured or worse. and i come back and find you, what? working for the first order? for the people who tried to kill us? ❞    she barks a laugh, short and humorless and so, so hurt. reina was never supposed to leave her; reina was supposed to be her constant, the one who stayed. and then rey was left screaming into empty space AGAIN, for someone who wouldn’t come home.

she does not, will not flinch when reina draws her saber. her own is tucked in her belt, a familiar presence now, but she doesn’t draw it yet. won’t against her own sister, unless she is forced to.    ❝ i chose to fight. ❞    she hadn’t been able to stand staying on ahch-to and training, had pleaded until luke had acquiesced to coming back to the base.    ❝ and you were supposed to be with me. ❞   her voice cracks at that, emotion finally boiling over the edges, heart scraped raw by the reminder of being so truly alone.
