And coming on February 8th...  I will be directing Valerie Braddel and Mick Greer in The Landscape and Ashes to Ashes, two plays by Harold Pinter, at The English Theatre of Lisbon / Estrela Hall. Premieres on February 8th on stage.

Exactly one month ago, Liima released their sophomore album 1982. It’s grown on me ever since. 

In the days up to and after the release date, they gave a few release concerts and parties here, there and everywhere. One of them was their show in Aarhus (even though it officially was part of the cultural program in order to celebrate Reformation Day).

The concert took place in the great hall of a high school on a late afternoon. I ran into singer Casper Clausen in the school yard before the show. He told me that the venue reminded him of his own high school (as featured in the closing scenes of Efterklang’s film An Island). It actually also meant that this was a seated show. Which somehow proved to be at odds with the new quite danceable tunes. But Casper Clausen found a solution and made his way to the audience, balancing in a dancing manner through the rows of chairs.

With their first album ii I still couldn’t help thinking of Liima as Efterklang in (electronic) disguise. But now they have become a band and a sound in their own right in my ears. A song like People Like You also brings in some new New Wave elements into their soundscape.

Liima will be touring in Europe in the beginning of 2018. And next time in Aarhus there will be no seats...

A few weeks ago Liima announced that they will be touring with Grizzly Bear through Europe in October.

It would be great to see them both, but probably I won’t be able, too. However, I was lucky to catch Liima in April when they gave a show in Aarhus. They played quite a few new great-sounding songs. So I am already looking forward to their new album. However, their bass player Rasmus told me that it probably will take a while before they get to recording them.
