Little brother, a little brother!
It was his little brother, and nothing filled his heart quickly with glee than when Asher had first stared into the wide eyes of his baby brother. Of course that had been when Ethan was a literal babe, Asher had adored him then. He always bugged their Mother and Father to see or to hold the twins. While it was true Asher loved them both, and Talia had been the one to hold tightly to his thumbs, it had been Ethan to mindlessly chew on them. Asher had always laughed at how eagerly the small boy had chewed his thumbs.
He adored Ethan, and he still did. Though years had passed, he could never get rid of it. Asher could never truly see himself not defending, protecting, and loving those wide eyes of his. How could anyone be so foolish as to not?
Eyes fluttered closed, taking a few breaths to enjoy the moment of recollection. Four years and he had changed. Four years and that love for his family had not wavered, it could never pass away. Currently their relationship was like a delicate string, Asher had to be careful, he knew he must. Eyes opened again, hues landed on Ethan and he smiled.
The boy, damaged, the boy who had barely escaped death’s gentle caress. There were more parts of strength in Ethan than many had assumed, more than Asher had ever assumed.
“Hold still, Ethan.” He urged with a voice not of command, but soft as if he were talking to the babe again. Reaching out, he messed with the boys hair; hair almost as thick and wild as Asher’s was. He was certain that if he grew his hair out again, it’d be similar. “You can’t expect me to not love my brother. Unless you do?”
Asher pulled Ethan into a hug, wrapping him in an embrace that was difficult to escape from. With arms as strong as his, if Ethan tried he could not likely get himself free. Smiling, he planted a kiss on the other’s forehead; warm, sloppy, and gross but it was so very Asher.
“You know I love you, right?”
