idk. you decide.
The first time he saw her, she was snapping goggles onto her face, blonde hair flowing in the wind. There was a Mickey Mouse band-aid across her cheek, and a Spider-Man one on her knee. She wore a bright smile, that radiated confidence and warmth. A sheet tied around her neck, and jumped into the classic Superman stance. "Let's go, Maximus!" She shouted into the wind, giggling as her white puppy danced around her feet. He noticed her front tooth was gone, and there were freckles dusting her nose.
It was then, that he tripped off his makeshift perch, head slamming down on the fence where it was recently resting. He flailed and screamed, reaching for anything to keep from falling. When he came up short, and accepted his fate, he already hit the ground. Butt landing first, resulting in an 'oof'. Which wasn't as bad as it could've been. He's certainly had worst.
"Are you okay, damsel?" Her head popped over the fence, playful smirk quirking up her lips.
He groaned, rubbing his forehead. "I'm not a damsel."
"You certainly scream like one." She grinned this million dollar grin, that Hiccup is sure is native to her alone. She pushes the goggles on her head, so he can get a look at her eyes. They’re twinkling, making him sure happiness originated right in those orbs. He'd probably believe she had stars trapped inside those endless greens.
"Aren't you a little too old for pretend?" He said, before even thinking about it. Which was always a bad idea on his end. His dad always explained that he had such a smart, motor mouth and it would get him into trouble one day. Well he's sure this is the day he had in mind. Without a shadow of a doubt, this girl wasn’t going to be his friend. Not with an insult being one of the first things out of his mouth.
But to his surprise, she offers a giggle full of gold and shakes her head.
"Psssh! You're never too old be a superhero. I'm Rapunzel by the way." She extends her hand over the fence, looking like it takes too much effort.
He stands to his feet, reaching over to shake it. "Hiccup. So uh, is your dog's name really Maximus?"
"Secret identity, duh. His real name is just plain old, Max,” she pets him with a fond smile, “you wanna come be a hero with us?" His first instinct is to say no. Because in his last neighborhood, he got a lot of teasing for being so into superheroes and all that. However with one look toward her dazzling smile, and he couldn't say no.
"Sure. But we need a bad guy." He offered, climbing over with her help. Which was much more difficult than either of them had anticipated. He ends up caught, with half his body in her yard, and feet in his. After plenty of tugging, and wiggling he falls over with a yelp. Crashing down onto Rapunzel.
She groans and looks at him. "Your breath is minty."
He reaches a hand in his pocket, "Gum?" He offers with a smile. Then realizing they're still laying together, with him on top. His cheeks heat so he rolls beside her, remaining laying in the grass. She takes a stick and throws the wrapper at his nose. Falling into a fit of giggles, afterward. It makes Hiccup roll his eyes, none the less, laughing along.
And that’s how Hiccup got himself a best friend.
