I'm so tired of people (specifically anime fans) being unable to tell the difference between a well written character and a "useful" one. Like I hate to break it to you but a character is not well written just because they can fight. It's really frustrating trying to have conversations about this stuff because for a lot of people that's all it comes down to :(

To me, personally, there are a few ways to judge if a character is well written and I'd probably say they're: being compelling in some way, sympathetic, likable or have strong development; not just serving a purpose of moving the plot forward or being generally nice and moral. But SOME people think being really cool in a fight or being someone they would hang out with in real life is more than enough. I'm not saying you have to hate them but it doesn't mean they're well written.

Please PLEASE get comfortable with the phrase "I said I like it not that it is good" like goddamn!!!!!
