Here’s what Regulus imagined his future was going to be like post-Hogwarts before he started dating James Potter. Regulus, as the heir of the most ancient and noble House of Black would take over from his father and become the patriarch of his family. He'd marry a cousin and produce an heir himself. Regulus would take the Dark Mark and be a loyal servant to Voldemort. Stripped dry of all he has to offer, and then be tossed aside like a rag doll with no use left in him.
Now, this is what Regulus imagines what his life will be like post-Hogwarts after starting to date James Potter. Waking up in their own shared flat; grey stormy eyes meeting hazel ones. Fingers intertwined and shared glances. Being free to do whatever he wants, on his own timeline - free of all restrictions, except for coming back home to James every night.
Oh, and how Regulus loved that rule. Being able to fall asleep next to the love of his life every night was something Regulus tried not to take for granted.
His whole life, Regulus assumed he’d never find love, and that he was unlovable. Being brought up in a household where a single step out of line meant physical punishment, Regulus had always assumed there’d actually been something wrong with him, unable to please anyone, least of all his parents. But now, things are different, and Regulus thanks his lucky stars for that everyday.
And so, when he wakes up in James’ arms, head on his chest and legs intertwined, Regulus can't help but sigh contentedly.
“Are you ok, love?” James mumbles, voice still thick with sleep.
Turning his head to lock eyes with his boyfriend, Regulus whispers “yeah, m' just happy.” This makes James smile softly, looking at Regulus with soft, adoring eyes before connecting their lips together.
