UGH it took LITERAL HOURS (I spent 4 hours or so last night and another 4-5 today) to organize, but I’m basically done sorting most of the bird supplies now. I got a box of six half-gallon jars and organized almost everything. I have jars for oyster shell, grit, “pigeon candy” (treat seed mix), pigeon feed, and sunflower seeds.
It took ten thousand years because the sunflowers are wild bird grade so they had a lot of flaws. Lots of sticks, broken or tiny seeds, and other garbage, so I spent hours picking out the debris by hand. I have a 1/2 gallon of clean sunflower seeds now so that’s pretty great. I also had to sort the oyster shell because Mushy ONLY eats the tiny pieces and yeets the rest (she makes a huge mess of it, I usually prep it any time it gets low, but now I have a jar of sorted small pieces on stand-by) and is very picky.
It took FOREVER. But it’s worth it. It looks great and now I can put the bulk bags downstairs in storage and keep the rest of the supplies nice and organized under Danny’s stand after that’s set up. We’re going to go get him tomorrow and we’re all prepared now.
Probably going to get another box of these jars for other stuff, they’re really great. I can store the grain sprays in one (I give millet, oat, and wheat sprays to the rodents and quail as treats, they love them!), mouse food in another, rat food in a different one...not sure what else I’d use them for but it’s really convenient. Maybe fermenting quail feed when we eventually get more quail one day...but that’s a long time away, heheh.
Anyway. Mason jars. Highly recommend for storing grain/pet food.
