so yeah, it got worse. the water level is at 5 meters. at 6 it'll be tall enough to go over the barrier. a neighboring city currently has 95% of its area underwater. people have been sitting on their roofs to be rescued but it's a slow process. some coworkers of mine haven't been able to contact their families in the countryside because there is no signal, and one other has had her family rescued by boat, two people, six cats and two dogs. the scary bit is thinking that there are so many out there in the same situation.
at least I got some different reasons to cry - the fire department in some cities is focusing on rescuing animals, and some places are having to turn down donations because they have more than enough. other states have sent in help and people are pushing it hard on social media to raise awareness.
having to go to work and continue life as normal has been difficult. I'm certainly grateful this part of the city is safe (for now at least) but it feels weird to sit here and type, and see the kids playing outside, and people walking their dogs like nothing happened. I feel... wrong, you know?
