Open chakras can be energy spots for someone, sometimes. You need to constantly be aware of yourself as a whole.

I usually imagine myself in a circle of white light and my chakras spinning smaller, not expanded. I think that “shutting them down” is impossible, maybe in death they shut down and then we move out of our vessel? But I do think protecting our energy field is important. But hey, whatever works :)

I do agree! and I was just asking my friend about it as well and he said that "energy vampires" do exist, but it's in a metaphorical sense. I guess I jumped to conclusions and took it in literal terms haha :p but I don't believe it's possible for them to shut down either. What these people were doing was directing and channeling energy through their center point, which is important to do because that, i'd say, is balancing and manifesting the energy as a whole, so maybe they just thought their chakras were "shut down?" I also imagine a white/purple aura around myself for protection, which makes me feel most comfortable. These energy points can be targets for many who are more open and vulnerable though, I being one of them, so I do understand what they're saying, but that can happen through the simple interaction of other humans, as well as channeling, which is why one must be cautious and centered. It just took me a minute or so to really think about what was being said ha :)
